I fat finger more letters than I miss. At mentioned earlier- 'preview is your friend.' I should use it more. Denise we won't mention substituting 'work' for 'word' either. :)

Speaking of typos that bug us, it's fingernails down a chalkboard to me when some uses 'then' rather than 'than'. The ol' to, two, too thing bugs me too, (or to). Or also.

Disagree. All the punchline has to do is show a dog was clever with words. Just like jokes with Polish, Catholics or Italians, or a rabbi, preacher, etc. People assign titles to make the subjects stand out, but a truly good joke will fly without stereotypes. You can usually change the subject identity, and it doesn't change the funny message.

Agreed. Saw the same joke on a chihuahua forum (I own two chi's). I attributed it to clever use of words. After all they are very clever dogs :p

Never read into it any other meaning

That darn "r" - I can't tell you how many times I miss that letter. I have no idea why, but I consistently miss it when typing the word "your."

That particular error really bugs me, because I find it irritating when people substitute the wor[d] "you" for "your," or "you're." At school, a lot of the students have started saying, "you welcome," instead of "you're welcome," and there is even a clerk in the office that has started saying it.

Normally I wouldn't have even commented about a typo, but it was just too funny when you were posting about the Preview Button LOL.

One of my kids' elementary school teachers had a neat way of teaching them contractions such as "you're" for "you are" - simply squeeze together the "you" and the "are" and the "a" gets squished and pops up as an apostrophe, so "you are" becomes "you're". I don't know how many of the little kiddos remembered that, but I thought it was pretty cool.

"Then" is "when" and "than" is used to "compare". I came up with that one (and many many more). I've taught it to a lot of students but I don't know with what success (or lack thereof).

Is "sourced" a legitimate verb?

Yes, it is.

For instance, "I sourced the beef for the beef Wellington from a local rancher."

"Sourced" is commonly used in the food world.

And yes, that article came from an English news aggregator. I have no idea why anyone would accuse Americans adding "U" to words. We've been trying our damnedest to stomp that habit flat for the past 200 years.

Actually, 'sourced' as a verb is fairly common. We use it in the tech business fairly often. Then again, when you look at it a few times, it does look odd, doesn't it? ;)

Since we're on the topic of previews (which I don't do enough), shouldn't this be kid's, since you are referring to the singular 'one of my...'?

No. One of the teachers of my (plural) kids would be as I meant and wrote it, one of my kids' teachers. The One here applied to One teacher - One of the many teachers. The possessive applied to my (plural) kids, not to the (singular) one teacher.

I didn't specify how many kids I had. If I had one kid it would be kid's.

Confused more now ? :D

Hmmm, this is a good one. I can see what you're saying now. The 'One of' is referring to a teacher who taught a collective group of your kids.

:hysterical: Fun stuff.

Hmmm, this is a good one. I still say it should be 'kid's' since you qualified it by saying 'one of my...' So while you may have many kids, you were referring to one kid and any number of that kid's teachers.

Now if you had simply said, "My kids' elementary school teachers had a neat way of..." I would agree.

:hysterical: Fun stuff.

Either way would be correct.....In the first sentence the word "ONE" refers to the word "Teacher" and not to the word "Kid." She is saying One of my kids' teachers...... as in one of the teachers of her kids.

I take it that she may not remember which kid had this particular teacher but one of her kids' had a teacher....

I will stop rambling now :)

Yeah, I can see that it could go in various ways. But what I meant was "one of the (many) teachers of my (two) kids"....think of it this way, "one of my children's teachers," children, plural, even if it was teacher, singular.

Oops, I already edited my post but got interrupted, then posted, and meanwhile saw your response. LOL, well, I'm sure this may be annoying to Easy, what with the grammar and all.

But it's all in fun.

Are you a hiring manager? I've often wondered how many resumes get round filed quickly because of typo's and poor grammar?

My pet peeve is when they use "effect" where "affect" is proper or (more rarely) vice versa. I also grate my teeth on the to, two, too issue.

Would you tell that joke in a room full of Mexican immigrants?

Even an innocuous joke like that could offend.

I stumbled across something interesting today, while reading the news:

Symptoms of fronto-temporal dementia: Someone with fronto-temporal dementia may become less sensitive to other people’s emotions. This can make them seem cold and unfeeling.

They may also lose some of their inhibitions. This could lead to strange behaviour, such as making sexually suggestive gestures in a public place, being rude to others or making tactless comments.

Did you boycott Taco Bell when their mascot spouted "yo quero?"

I hear their meat is offal.

H

LOL! I love clever plays on words.

or should it be "I love clever play on words"?

or should that be "I love clever play on words?"

I have decided that I don't like the preview button. It makes me too uptight.

Three dogs are walking down the street when they spot a beautiful poodle.

She is aware of her charms and says to the dogs, "I will go on a date with whichever of you is the first to use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' in an intelligent sentence."

The labrador shouts, "I HATE liver and cheese!"

The poodle rolls her eyes.

The golden retriever wags his tail and says, "I LOVE LIVER AND CHEESE!!!!!"

The poodle is not impressed.

The chihuahua sidles up and says, "Liver her alone, cheese mine."

This joke IS very offensive and makes broad, incorrect stereotypes.

Why is it always assumed that the labrador is the loud obnoxious dog in the room, and the poodle is the cool, attractive, refined one???
