I've been watching the Weather Channel since its inception. I knew Mike Seidel when he was a weekend weatherman in Greenville, SC in late 80's. The last time I saw him at the gym, he informed me that he was taking a job at a cable station that only covered weather 'Weather Channel'. Since then, he and Jim Cantore have been in the middle of every major weather event over the past 30+ years. My brothers and I used to joke that the worst thing that could happen on a vacation was to have one of them on your flight. I wonder where they go for vacation.

Mike Seidel was recently 'downsized' by WC, but I've noticed he is now at the center of storms for another network. The video below was taken during Ian and illustrates their bravery/craziness. I'd like to thank them for their years of service and hope they continue to stay safe along with everyone in the storm's path.

Wasn't Mike Seidel also accused of faking conditions in Hurricane Florence?

I lived in Clearwater Beach during Ian and Cantore was reporting on the beach prior to landfall. He then abruptly left and we knew we were going to be ok.

Mike Seidel came to Lancaster, PA when we lived there. We got a Northeaster snow storm with 26 in of snow and drifts to the top of my garage. Even though I like the guy, I don't want him coming to where I live or vacation.

I worked with his mother, Millie Seidel in 1978.

Jim Cantore was reporting from our town, literally about a half mile away during Irene years ago. He was raised in VT and got his meteorology degree here also, and I bet he vacations here too, which is fine with me! At least he always stays safe.

It seems like several news people now think it is a good idea to report from the storm center areas, similar to Cantore and Seidel. At least two of them were hit by debris while reporting recent storms. Cantore and Seidel appear to know when it is time to move to safer areas since they've survived all of these years.
