Thanks for that update, Richard.

I first met Alex Trebek when in Grade 12 in high school here in Toronto in 1967. He was the host of the local high school "trivia" challenge show here on CBC-TV, called "Reach for the Top", where teams of four students from two different high schools competed each week in a "Jeopardy-like" contest. It was early in his career, before he moved to Hollywood to become famous. He was as warm, gracious and humble then as he is now.

For his exemplary service in instilling "a love of learning in millions of people around the world" and his work encouraging geographic literacy in both Canada and the US, in 2017 Alex Trebek was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, one of Canada's highest civilian honours. I extend to him and his family the very best of wishes in the difficult path ahead. He has been able to stave off the effects of pancreatic cancer much longer than most. I have known at least four people personally that have succumbed to this silent killer, most very quickly.

Here is an interesting interview (once you get past the initial commercials) done with Alex in October 2019 by Lisa LaFlamme, CTV National News Chief Anchor, about life and mortality in the face of a terminal illness. He is such a class act! When the time comes, he will be missed!

I just want to say Thanks You to Alex Trebek, for his strength and courage during the past two years.

He ain't gone yet... The article says: "...whenever that may be."
While illness may force his hand, his contract runs thru 2022.
.

It seems that the time is quickly approaching though. I read where he said it's become increasingly painful to even walk out onto the stage. I've watched Alex for many years and you can see he's growing tired. His voice has at times, becomes scratchy and you find yourself wanting him to cough to clear it. Wishing that someone would just bring him a glass of water.

Not wanting the inevitable to ever come, we know it must. I don't envy whomever they choose to take over. They will to have to work really hard in order to live up to the high standards set by Alex Trebek.

Those are going to be big shoes to fill.

I think he is going to make it through the tournament with James, ken Jennings, and Brad Rutter. I don’t see him going much longer
