Greetings and happy holidays. I currently own HGVC @ W57th, Elara, and Ocean Tower (Hawaii) and have approx. 14k points in the system. I wish to purchase more timeshare points and am not beholden to any particular developer. My goal is to be able to vacation in NYC or Puerto Rico for 2-4 weeks a year. My ownership @ W57th affords me one week and the remaining points would cover a second. However, they do not necessarily provide opportunities to vacation in Puerto Rico. They also aren't enough to get me to four weeks in NYC. For additional context, I own other timeshares (El Cid, Diamante/Tafer) that provide access to Interval International. However, I rarely make deposits to Interval and use it mainly for Getaways and the certificates they offer.

Initially, I thought that purchasing Club Wyndham points to cover 2-4 weeks of vacationing would do the trick. I would seek to purchase a resale contract @ Midtown 45 which gives me the expanded booking window and has Rio Mar in the portfolio. I figured somewhere around 700k points would do the trick.

I then decided to state my plan here to gain from the knowledge and experience of you wonderful folks to help me decide. Perhaps this is the best course of action; but perhaps there is a better option. I come to you seeking advice on how to pull off my goal in the most effective manner. I wish to vacation in NYC or Puerto Rico for at least a month annually, with the flexibility of choosing both (for shorter stays) in any given year or none and having other great options to use my ownership.

I await your words of encouragement and wisdom!

Welcome. I am not aware of any timeshares in Puerto Rico.

If you own NYC you can convert your points to 32:1 to hilton.com. Possibly that would get you Puerto Rico Hiltons in addition to NYC?

I have done the conversion in the past. It's a hack I use because I have other HGVC points that I can still use to book NYC and owning in W57th provides an extended booking window. Wyndham has a Margaritaville property in Rio Mar (Puerto Rico) which is why I am entertaining the Wyndham purchase. They also have Midtown 45 which has 1br units with a kitchenette. It comes in handy on longer stays.

There's def timeshares in PR, but I think I saw them in RCI. Have you checked RCI via your HGVC portal for Extra Vacations, Last Calls and Exchanges? I thought "to be sure" for Margaritaville bookings you needed a different ownership than normal Wyndham, but I'm not 100% sure.

Most of the Margaritaville locations can be booked with regular Club Wyndham points at the five month mark. I think there is one location that can't, perhaps Nashville or Atlanta?

Should I take this to mean it would be best to own at both Midtown45 and Rio Mar in order to pull off my goal?

has something changed? I thought resale Club Wyndham could not book most Margaritavillas with Puerto Rico being an exception.

Could be and my thinking came from some old post I read a while back. I seem to recall that there was another property where regular Club Wyndham couldn't book the Margaritaville rooms. Though I could be wrong on that.
