Ok, Cancun first-timers here in April and need some opinions. I think Isla Mujeres looks heavenly. It seems Playa Norte is the beach to check out. I am somewhat hesitant because we have never been to Mexico and hubbies Spanish isn't going to help us much on Isla Mujeres. Is this going to matter?
How about shopping?

Thoughts and comments????
Thanks

You'll find most people speak English on Isla as well as everyone in Cancun. Places like Garrafon and Dolphin Discovery often have staff who actually live in Cancun and commute by ferry.

We enjoy taking lunch on Playa Norte at a place called Chimbo's (not sure if they are currently open post-Wilma).

Just FYI, topless sunbathing is fairly common on Playa Norte.

Isla Mujeres is very peaceful

If you are looking for a quiet week, you will love Isla mujeres and North Beach is beautiful with shallow and calm water...the island blocks the waves. You can find lots of shops on the island and sidewalk type restaurants. The business district is small and walk-able. You get a whole different feel when you stay for the week as opposed to staying in Cancun and just going over for the day. You can rent motor scooters or golf carts to drive around the island which is fun.

We stayed at Villa Vera which is on a marina. It is a lovely small resort within walking distance of town, but out of the hustle and bustle. They have a private beach club on the quiet side of the island.I don't know if they still have it, but we were serenaded by a classical guitarist each morning for 2 hours...it was so beautiful.

Enjoy the experience. We did.
