Is Uber possible through an iPad?

Thanks, SmithOp. We are packed waiting for Super Shuttle to the airport, followed by airport hotel bus to the Marriott for overnight. I'll look again later and try to load Uber as an iPhone app.

Purposely didn't turn my cell phone on because the guy who seems to have our Super Shuttle territory was over 90 minutes early last time (we were ready so it wasn't really an issue), but tonight I wanted to feed us dinner at 4PM. I see he twice tried to text me at 4PM for our 5PM pickup, but of course I have no clue as to how to pick up a text and the one button I pushed wasn't it and now I can't access his phone number. This is why I didn't want a 4AM pickup at home tomorrow, bad enough having to get up at 3AM with four cats clamoring, then to have the guy be early, no way!

OK, I've checked again. There is no iPad app, in spite of the fact that when I type in Uber in the search box it gives me a list of suggestions, one of which is "Uber for iPads". Thought to check Lyft also, although I don't know how widespread they are. Nothing comes up. So taxi it is if we get in a situation where I can't walk or stand comfortably.

Open the ap store and type in Uber, not Uber for iPad. After that, in the upper left corner of of your iPad, right next to the wi-fi symbol, select iPhone only and Uber will show up. It will work fine. The person that created the ap did not want to make two Aps. Especially since most people will be using a smart phone to find a driver. Using iPhone Aps on your iPad is no big deal.

I tried my GPS on my smart phone a couple years ago while driving from Vegas to Bryce Canyon. As soon as I got an hour away from Vegas or out of data coverage, the GPS stopped working. So the last time I tried, my Samsung Note 2 did not have a GPS chip in it. Now I am using an iPhone 6 Plus. Does anyone know if that has a GPS chip.

The GPS needs to have data or pre cache the maps. You can do this in Google maps. Not sure about Apple mapping though.

Actually, all cellular devices have a 'phone' number associated with them… You may just not know what that number is or use it on an iPad etc.... And yes, authorities can ping your device and pull records up to see where it's been

Now that we are settled in NYC I've tried again. UberGuest is still the only thing that comes up when I type in Uber and select select either Uber or Uber app from the list that appears. Scrolled down to where the list offered Uber iPhone and selected that -- only garbage apps appeared, not even UberGuest. iPad is three or at most four years old, and Apple tech support did help me load a new version 18 months ago or so, so I wouldn't think I'm out of date. I know eventually we will get an iPhone, guess we'll just wait for that. Thanks again for everyone's input.

There are 3 big Apple Stores in Manhattan. We went to the SOHO one but there is one uptown and one of west 14th. I would go there and ask them for the definitive answer. The have tons of people helping.

Type Uber in the Search box and then change the filter to Iphone Only, the iphone only does not go in the search box.

I clicked on iPhone only and then the little "loading" symbol started going round and round so I was optimistic. But after 15 minutes of the round and round I gave up. I guess it's just not meant to be!
