Hello everyone. Joined a couple weeks ago and overwhelmed with the amount of info here and thought posting a question may be easier. I've attended about a half dozen timeshare presentations and have even purchased one and cancelled the day after after reading horror stories on the internet. But I still like the idea of possibly saving money and staying at nice resorts. But wasn't quite sure if I'm better off renting or buying.

I'm 42 and my favorite destination is Oahu and usually pay about $200 a night at the Outrigger Reef or similar hotels. We've been going here every year for 4 years now but have also been taking week long cruises and looking into a guided tour to Europe. So we'll probably not go to Oahu every year now since we're not retired and have about 4 weeks of vacation each year. Also, although we travel as a group of 2 now, would love to take at least one more couple with us like our parents to some of these trips.

Would love to get some advice on if you think timeshare is right for us and if so, which one. Thanks in advance!

1) Where do you want your home resort to be?
Oahu, Hawaii

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
About half

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
Mexico, Caribbean, Eurrope, Asia

4) How many people do you usually travel with?
2 total but would like option for 4 or more

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Usually flexible

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
Usually feasible

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
4-5 stars

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
Would like to keep it under $20K

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
Upto $2K.

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
I can be. If it's a place I haven't been, I'll do research.

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yes

I'm not very familiar with the options most suitable for you but given your responses I do think that timeshares might make sense for you.
