We're trying to decide about a vacation for next summer right now with points. I booked a week in grand cayman and a week in aruba - hotel GC - 2 rooms - one for us, one for the kids - 2 bed timeshare (we own) in aruba.
I could get flights to grand cayman and back from aruba with open jaw. The trouble? Getting from Grand C to Aruba is a fortune. So forget that.
So last night we thought - we could just stay in Aruba for 2 weeks. We booked a suite on the private island in Aruba - in a Marriott hotel - but it cost an additional 140K points.
Air - we can get direct, coach seats for 60K (premium) from USAIR. We could get first class , not direct, seats on American - but coach on the way back - with the flight leaving Aruba at 8 am. ICK.
Part of me feels like this is throwing points out the window. I'd spend 250K Marriott points to get 120K FF miles - enough for 2 tickets. We have 120K Usair miles, so that's not a problem. We have no AA miles, so I'd have to buy 2 packages to get those miles.
We get one week in the hotel - but need an additional 140K miles to upgrade to the suite. Of course, that's about the same price as 2 rooms, so that's not so bad.
What do you think? I have more thoughts - but I will start getting jumbled, so I'll leave this post as is and hear what you have to say. THANKS
