Is there something we can or should do about broken walking?

I'm thinking of the situation where you attempt to modify your reservation by adding a day, but your current reservation doesn't show on the calendar. When this happens on a Saturday Sunday holiday weekend, you get shut out of walking because by the time the HGVC office reopens, new three day windows have opened up and your opportunity to walk is gone. Yes you can try canceling and rebooking over the weekend but availability reappears at unpredictable intervals so you can end up with nothing.

It seems HGVC can see the availability and modify even if we can't so this does seem like an IT glitch as opposed to some kind of intentional throttling.

Is there an organized way to make HGVC IT aware of this problem?

You can tell CS but they should be aware of it. If the website isn't working, try the app. I have done that. You may not lose a day though since new walkers need 3 nights to get their foot in the door. On the other hand, if there are other walkers and on a given day there could be less rooms available than walkers trying to book them then you are competing against other walkers.

They're aware. It hasn't worked for years.

Here's an old thread.

well after 8 years maybe they forgot

I think the first two rules of Fight Club should apply to walking a reservation.

i get it. but not being able to reserve rooms for a certain event is a serious devaluation of my membership.

Not trying to be mean, but all you were promised is a weeklong stay in the unit, season, and resort you purchased.

Everything else is icing on the cake.

absoutely not. i can reserve my home week with no club. but the club exists, and we have a contract, and there are rules. it's not "against the rules" to not have availability but it's a devaluation nonetheless.

This is my change window - I hold the 23-28 October. It’s a cancel and rebook only option - no walking today!

You could have called it in.

But if you are reserving your home week, you aren't walking a reservation. Are you? Is walking a reservation something that HGVC actually promotes in their club literature? Or is it just something that owners came up with as a work around to get harder to reserve inventory?

walking just means repeatedly modifying a reservation. that is allowed under the rules.

@dioxide45 you are correct. You can only walk club season. Home week is exactly that

I have never used my home week. Generally there is good availability during Home Season floating weeks because, unlike other systems, so few use home week. Even resort priority float season for NYC has good availability up to about 3 months to arrival unless you want a specific room type.

Holiday weeks are designated as event week ownerships. I believe those are automatically reserved and you need to cancel if not using it to get points for club season

the problem is when you are trying to walk across a 3 day holiday weekend. Then you lose the window before the office reopens and you can call in. For those of us with this problem in essence it means we are very unlikely to be able to reserve for the dates in question. That is not a minor inconvenience.
