I am thinking of joining and using II. Why would anyone deposit 1st with II?

3 reasons:

1) You are offered an AC for your deposit

2) Your trading power is higher the earlier you deposit (to some extent)

3) You want to place an exchange request that is difficult and want to be first in line

When using Deposit First you get a much larger travel window of one year before to two years after the check in date of your deposit. When using Request First, you are limited to making an exchange from one year prior to the start of your week up until the start of your week.

I forgot about that! That is a major reason. It really hinders a request or an online (manual) search if you have placed a "request first." I did it once and I won't make that mistake again. Either I deposit or not. I no longer place any "request first."

With request first, when you get within 59 days of the check in date of the week which you using for a trade, the value of your week is terribly reduced. IMHO, at 60 days, you should either deposit the week or withdraw the request and plan to use the week yourself.
