Is MVC Downgrading II Exchanges at all Resorts

Have a data point to add to this discussion.

My aunt is an Aruba Surf Cub owner and I help her with your reservations and things since her husband died a couple of years ago.

She asked me to book a specific date at Aruba Surf for May- but when I checked it was not available to reserve using her week, but the correct date was available as an instant exchange in Interval. So I reserved a different week with her ownership and made the Interval trade for the correct date for her.

The unit code on the exchange was a Garden View. I explained this to her and she said no problem- view isn't a big deal she was just happy she had the right date because her best friend who is also an owner there was also going the same week.

I happened to look up her reservation yesterday on the hotel site and the reservation is now showing as an Oceanside week instead of the Garden View like before. Oceanside is the view on the week she owns- so it looks like they upgraded her from the Garden View to her actually owned view of Oceanside instead.

Not sure if this answers your question or not, but when I called recently to deposit one of my weeks, the person I spoke with told me to call back if I decided that I was going to deposit it into Interval. It sounded like they wanted to select a different code or something like that for deposits.

Who did you call? Marriott or II?

Marriott, I called them to reserve my week. She told me to call them first before depositing to II.

You can deposit into II yourself, no need to call MVC to do it- doesn’t matter what you selected when you reserved your week.

My 1880 point Hyatt is now unable to touch the 1950 points required for some 2 BR high TDI locations. We went from having an overly generous point valuation to being under valued, in my opinion.

So does it make more sense to book a gardenview room with points at Marriott if trading into II? Why use more points if it has the same trading power?

You can't deposit a reservation made with Club Points.

I've had variable results over the years. Even as an owner at Waiohai trading via II for another week than my own using a non-Waohai unit trade. KoOlina just tells you, sorry, no guarantees on rooms as trade. On others, I have had better luck. I assume now that I will not get what the paper says. But that is just me.
