Is it true that RCI Points members see more resorts than RCI weeks? Should I get more TPUs, or Points?

Yes, that is the case, one RCI account and 1 fee, but 2 log-ins, at least with our account. When I am logged into one, I can not see what weeks/points are available in the other. Recently I had 2 weeks space banked at once (due to Covid) and when I logged into my points account I could not 'see' them. Only my unused points (2yrs worth at that time) showed. RCI extended our use time for both our week & points due to the Canada/US border being closed for so long. When it re-opened I did a pretty good job of using the points up with only 120 left over -not enough to pay to extend IMHO.

I spoke to RCI again and this time they told me exactly what you described -- that I will have one membership, in RCI Points, but I will have 2 different logins. They also said that while in Points, I will see inventory from both points and weeks. But to book using one of my weeks, I will need to switch logins. I can't wait to try it!

Yes, I get that message when I search with my 1 TPU that I have lef......but below it, it shows the inventory that would have required more TPUs. Maybe you just need to scroll down a bit more?

Yup, I do see one result below. I guess that's the only week available in the inventory. Thanks for confirming.

It amazes me (and seems crazy) the price/cost differences that can exist between RCI Points and RCI Weeks.

One does not consistently have an advantage over the other. RCI Points almost always offers more options. But RCI Weeks can sometimes be way more economical.

Example: Currently Labor Day week with a Friday check-in is available in both RCI Points and RCI Weeks.

My Cost in Points:

RCI Points 33,500 (approx. $225.00 in MF)

Exchange Fee = $257.00 (normal $289 minus a current/temporary $32.00 discount that applies to Massanutten and other areas with a glut of inventory)

Total costs ~$482

My Cost in TCI Weeks:

RCI TPUs: 3 (less than $60 in MFs)

RCI VV Internal Exchange Fee $159.00

Total costs ~ $219

There are times I have penciled my costs out and RCI Points is a better value. But as much as entry costs are for RCI Points if done as a developer purchase ... I truly don't get it.

If I had to pick one account, it would be RCI Points due to flexibility and the ease of placing ongoing searches.

But it can be very valuable to also have an RCI weeks account. (This is especially true if doing VV internal exchanges often.)

On the other hand last week I was looking at a 5 night stay for this week at Margaritaville Atlanta -Sun-Thurs. In RCI points it was 11 tpu's and in rci points it was 6500 and they both had the same $289 exchange fee and presumably $95 short stay housekeeping fee.

VV resorts are over pointed both exchanging in and out so using points there (especially with no discounted exchange fee) doesn't give you a good value through rci.

I am trying to figure out if I am better off buying more weeks to get more TPUs, or buying weeks at resorts with RCI Points. My goal is to open up the most possible trading opportunities with RCI.

Any updates on how this has worked out for you?
