We own 231,000 annual points at Star Island, Kissimmee which we purchased RESALE.

We recently stayed at Skyline Tower, Atlantic City & during our "update" were told that eventually our points will only be good at our "home" resort & will no longer be able to book anywhere else. However, he could not tell us when these so called changes would be taking effect, just that it is in the works & to get full benefit from Wyndham we would be wise to purchase additional points direct.

Now we have been considering purchasing additional points resale anyway but since his sales pitch we entertained the idea that maybe it might be a good idea to purchase direct from Wyndham--until they quoted us $12,000 for 84,000 points annual with the promise of VIP status & therefore we would reap all the VIP bennefits...

So my question to all of you is, is there ANY truth to the so called changes that would prevent "resale" owners from using points anywhere else but their home resort?? Would love to hear all of your input.

Have not a clue. However, if you do take the sales rep up on the offer, make sure that you get it in writing that all of your points as of the date of the contract plus the contract points makes you VIP.

Not one word is true. Buy all the resale points you want safely. They will always be good for any points resort in the Wyndham system.

Don't go to anymore sales tortures OR realize not one statement madr is likely to be factual. Not one. They are trying to scare you into a costly purchase you'd soon regret. Never buy retail Wyndham points.

Was the salesman's lips moving? That's the most reliable indicator that they're lying.

Just to further the point of everyone else the reason this wouldn't work is it would take away inventory for "real" owners. On older resorts most of the inventory would be gone because it would all be resale and if the owner can't trade out their week from their resort then that means a "real" owner couldn't trade in to that resort. Otherwise the points wouldn't balance.

We were at AC a few weeks ago I think we got the same salesman he told us the same thing and that a special assessment coming up at our home resort! They are all lies! By any chance was the timeshare he was trying to sell you in RI?
BUT if you want the VIP status thats another story but be sure to get that in writing!

He had told us 2012! I said well I already used all my points for 2012 and NOT at my home resort he replied well you must have gotten lucky but you wont be able to do this in 2013! looks like he changed his story!

2013...I know what's up! The Weasel was expecting that whole "End of the World" thingy that happens on 21 Dec 2012 to make all of our points kind of worthless. You won't be able to use your points then...of course, that kind of does in the idea of buying additional point....

:hysterical:
Thank you all, you have made us feel better about the whole thing! I think for now we'll continue to shop resale! Glad to hear we weren't the only ones to be told the world is ending!

I used to worry about that, but then I figured it would not be in Wyndham's best interest to do this. 1. If we were no longer in the (program) they couldn't charge us a program fee. That would cost them lots of money. 2. If resale owners couldn't use the program that would cause even more people than they already have choosing to walk away from their timeshare rather than continuing to pay their mf's. 3. They need people to purchase resale contracts b/c that keeps the money coming in. So, I'm not too worried about Wyndham making that move.

Not to mention that the UDI owners - the majority of all Wyndham owner types - don't have legal rights to their home resor the way a deeded week converted to points would. The system was set up to be based on points - not single resort use/ownership - from the start. They would have to go back & rewrite the documents (requires owner super majority vote) and get the State to agree - not going to happen. It isn't even a reasonable scenario and can be completely ignored. As all sales weasels should as well.

That thought occurred to me also. Everything you describe would be a piece of cake compared to the problem that all of the UDI ponts are in the deed. So even if they got over the above hurdles, they would still have to deal with the deed language in all the states they have UDI timeshares in.

As others have said, if this happened, it would literally break the whole system for everyone (retail and resale owners). Not going to happen.

I called Star Island Member Services, they advised the opposite is true, they are in negotations to buy the balance of the resort.

Robert - WHICH MEMBER SERVICES at STAR ISLAND? Member Services is a Wyndham term. The resort management is NOT Wyndham - it is the original developer and builder. He and his brother built the place and borther got divorice - which cause a problem to buyout the about to be ex-wife. That is HOW Wyndham got those units.

There are 2 sales staffs and each has their own building; two conceignor desks in the lobby. One front desk checkin desk - running on two different reservation systems.

And the Star Island Wyndham sales staff can spin BS better than Bonnet Creek or Atlantic City --- IMHO.

I asked the person who he worked for and he indicated it was Wyndham.

There is nothing like a timeshare sales weasel if you want just the facts.

So that is NOT the STAR ISLAND Resort Management or manager or the actual developer/site owner or any of the Star Island HOAs? It is a sales person in who works in Member Services? How much is their office budget? Are they still buying their breakfast danish from Walmart or Costco or the stale old bread store?

And this is a well researched FACT you are reporting here? Or Gossip and weasal-speak from a trusted source?

Let me see if my crystal ball can predict which stock on the NYSE will triple in the next 6 months (longterm capital gains is better).....

So if the posters that are attacking what to believe that re-sale Wynhdam points may be changing as the orginal poster indicated Atlantic City said, so be it. Personnally, I think it is very interesting what the sales staff reports. P.S. A incorrect assumtion was made that I talked with a sales person. And maybe, in time, if I learn to keep my mouth shut and/or start carrying the Tugs Company line, I will graduate to the status of a priveledge Tugs Member that actually gets to sign into the members section instead of being limited to the Guest sections.

The sales slime have been using the "points will change and you'll be limited" hogwash lines for years. What the alleged consequences may be can change but the misinformation remains the same. Trying to plant a strong seed of doubt that what you own/got from the great value of resale will somehow become worth less (or worthless) but they alone can save you from the coming apocalypse buy merely charging you tens of thousands for what you already own but with weasel profits added.

Yup - makes good sense to me! Pay more, get the same or less and make a weasel happy. Never mind that I'd be throwing money away, losing the value I already have and would end up with possibly even more points to pay fees on and have to deal with a tremendous loss when I try to get rid of them. Yup, I would feel better if I had a big amount of funds circling the drain while the friendly weasel got to pay a few more months on thier luxury car rent or throw it away on drinks and nightlife. Just warms my heart when I think about it.

Believing anything most timeshare weasels spew - and this applies even more to Wyndham & Wastegate representatives - is a big mistake. They only want a sale and how they get it isn't going to matter to them. You are a mark and need to protect yourself or pay a terribly big price. Applies to TUG members & non-members. Equal opportunity.

It's simpler than that. If you've paid your $15, you're in. If you're having trouble even after joining, I'm sure there are many here who will walk you through the process. There are plenty of posters here who hold dissenting or unorthodox opinions from many of the other members, who are still full TUG members.

Longwell,

First of all, your guest status has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that you need to follow the instructions Denise M posted for you on another thread.

If you find the comments of the sales staff interesting, well that's interesting. Personally, I find them annoying and you seem to have a tendency to post information you heard from sales staff in such a way that people who stumble across it might actually think it was true. Since this is pretty much the opposite intention of TUG's existence, which is to help separate fact from fiction for the uninitiated and teach people how to make better use of their ownerships, those whose goal is to help DISPEL misinformation and weasel speak are often frustrated by some of your posts. No offense intended. Just trying to offer some context and explanation.

The problem isn't that you don't tote the "TUG company line." The problem is that you assume anything anyone tells you as a company representative is completely true---and we know that's often not the case. Worse, you then fill in the gaps with unfounded assumptions. I can't tell if this is because you don't actually know what's going on, or what, but you do it frequently.

Let's take this Star Island example. As noted, there are essentially two different developments---one Wyndham, one not---that are separately governed, but subject to the overall management of the resort as a whole. And, the management contract is not held by Wyndham. I can imagine Wyndham is negotiating with the non-Wyndham board to take over the management contract for the resort. But, whether or not that happens, it has zero impact on the participation of "Wyndham units" in the points program.

Either way, it doesn't matter, because as everyone has noted, the contracts and governing documents for either converted fixed weeks or UDI deeds are pretty specific. It *is* possible to remove a resort from the points program---at least, my converted-week contract includes such a provision---but that mechanism operates at the resort level, not at the level of individual intervals, so it could not be used to distinguish resale from developer.

...

Well said, Brain. And thank you.
