Is HGVC about to lose a bunch of locations?

Jason, could this be the answer?
"The transaction includes the management contracts with Club Intrawest"
Not sure how this works but if HGVC has a contract with CI then I guess they would just take over and HGVC still in contract & using the properties..(?:ponder:)

I am sure they have some form of affiliation agreement with HGVC. Generally the contract has a way for the parties to seperate (vote of owners... ETC).

Given my understanding of their business model, I do not see good things happening as a result of this... unless DRA is planning on also buying HGVC.

I've been wanting to stay at Zihutanejo. Perhaps I'll book something soon as I doubt they'd be able to cancel reservations once made since people conceivably would have booked flights and such at that point.

I couldn't imagine Diamond breaking an agreement like that. Agreements have start and end dates. They will at least wait until the end date of the contract before changing anything.

Booking CI with HGVC is not easy and readily available. Same with the reverse. There is a limited amount of inventory available. I was able to book a year in advance (a benefit of being elite), but have never had success in the less than 9 month mark. The Hilton rep did tell me that I could call in every day to see if anything comes open, but that isn't my style. It's way easier for me to set up a search in II with something else and let it send me a confirmation when it mathches.

Bite your tongue!

I typed faster than I thought.

What I ment was that HGVC would lose access to those resorts unless they also bought HGVC.

I kid you not, if they buy HGVC, I will be among the first to get out ASAP....

I can't imagine them keeping their affiliation with HGVC after this aquistion.

Not so fast my friend (to quote Lee Corso) - It looks like Diamond is the owner (or at least the manager) of the Grand Luxxe, Grand Mayan, etc properties in Mexico, as well as the Grand Pacific properties in Carlsbad. HGVC already partners fairly closely with these properties so maybe things won't change much?

With all the consolidation going on in the hotel and timeshare industry nothing would surprise me! I'll be right behind you in the line to get out.

They do not own or manage Grand pacific resorts. They have an affiliation where they can access some of the GPR properties (some are HGVC affiliated and some are not) and they make deposits into the internal GPR exchange program.

Oh I can't take this! I haven't even had my coffee yet!!

Why???????? (I only added 8 question marks because the system said my message had to be at least 10 characters). :wall:

BAsed on my limited research (and I admit it is limited), DRA does not adhere to the same standards of quality and customer service as HGVC.

and the first thing they do is jack up the maint fees...

Let's all calm down folks.

Exchange is more than just something to make the current owners happy.

Exchange also supplies fresh meat for tours.

Having HGVC owners using CI properties is good business for the body snatchers and good business for Diamond going forward.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I am not that familiar with DRI, but after reading the investor presentation on the acquisition, it looks like they have acquired quite few companies in recent years.

In every case the old brands disappeared and replaced with the Diamond Resorts brand. Presumably that will happen here as well.

DRI has a ton of locations, with lots of overlap to HGVC locations. My guess is that long term a partnership with DRI is not nearly as valuable as the one with Club Intrawest was....

I exchange to Club Intrawest quite frequently and have never had any problems. We live in Seattle and LOVE CI-Whistler; about a 5 hour drive for us depending on border crossing. We go at least once a year. A couple of years ago we stayed at their Zihuatanejo property (loved it, too!). One of the reasons we bought HGVC was because of their affiliation with Club Intrawest. Not sure if we will stay members if that affiliation is dropped....
