Within hours of me posting comments on various social media, including TUG, Google floods me with related news feeds and advertisements. Sad that we are being stalked and manipulated so intently.

For example, after posting on TUG threads i have been inundated with video ads from Wesley Financial Group, a ts exit firm. Today I got fed this story about people too sensitive about family relationships after posting about snowflakes https://torontosun.com/life/relationships/ask-amy-daughter-wants-distance-after-wedding-nightmare .

I got off facebook years ago and think i'll get off the others soon.

This Tech Guy Revealed How Google And Facebook Are Stalking You And It’s Creepy

We're all being stalked and followed. It's just the nature of the beast.

Always remember... They know where you are. They know where you've been. They can more or less know what you're thinking about.

I do not get as many when using my computer as I do with my iPad or Kindle Fire HD.

I do not use Google as my Browser and have Ad Blocker Ultimate on my computers - that helps immensely. I use Firefox.

I do very little browsing and no social media on my cell phone. I got a lot of ads when I converted to the new facebook format on my computer, so I reverted back to the original one and do not get "Sponsored" ads now.

I keep most notifications and location services off unless using them. Apple has updated their Maps recently and it is supposed to be better than the old one. Kim Komando said it does not track you and report like Google, so I made that my map default this week.

I never belonged to Facebook. We are using Microsoft Edge more now.

Its cookies in the browser.

yes, and cookies can be easily managed however eliminating the browser cookies won't completely eliminate the "stalking"

I use Facebook, Google and Amazon and the stalking is minimal (so far). .... well, Amazon does know my address

Firefox has really updated their stuff in the past year. The have an extension called Facebook Container that - "To help Firefox users have more control of their data on Facebook, we've created the Facebook Container Extension. This extension helps you control more of your web activity from Facebook by isolating your identity into a separate container. This makes it harder for Facebook to track your activity on other websites via third-party cookies. "

Duck Duck Go is our preferred Search with any browser. Dogpile is an old one that I used to use all the time - it is still good too.

Kim Komando said the new Apple Maps that would have been ugraded in 13.3.1 is as good as Waze. I've not used Waze, but my brother does and loves it. Kim K said that the Apple one does not collect your info like Waze does.

Google stalks everyone. It's not new. I've been using Duck Duck Go, Avast and Ghostery so my online existence is peaceful. I don't do any social media so I don't leave a neon trail. not sure the hows and whys of being able to use FB login for this site or that site, but don't do it. Once you create a linkage, you can't get rid of it.

Awesome. I'll try Apple Maps as well.

I use Duck Duck Go and Bing for the most part. Google creeps me out. I got rid of Facebook years ago. Although I have Instagram and Pinterest still.

You can search/google anything, the ads will pop up everywhere I am in at the moment o_O

I did get off FB for about a year. I am on Instagram. Don't have as many people. I went back on FB because I ended up missing a lot of "news" good and bad from family and friends. No one picks up the phone anymore :(. I don't go on it daily.

After reading an article about Facebook's methods, I cleared my FB history. By the next day, I was receiving twice the junk email than I have in years. Not much changed on FB itself. I kept seeing the same ads as well as new ones from wherever I'd been on the net recently. Sigh.

When I use a VPN I don't get the stalking type of adds. I'm using one now because tug is banned from the vdp internet service.

yes, erasing cookies and using a VPN will eliminate online targeted advertising

Google, Facebook, etc., give you stuff for free not because you are the customer - you are the product.

I was telling hubs about this thread today and he mentioned a site that he likes, but is inundated by ads. I told him that I also check that site daily and do not have ads. He uses a different browser. So, he just added Firefox along with an Adblocker and Privacy Badger (I forgot that I use this one too) and guess what - no ads on that site now! :) Interestingly enough, he was the one that told me about Firefox years ago, but migrated his computer to a different browser. :)
