Is a Guest Certificate needed?

My daughter and I are traveling to Surf Club in Aruba in September through an exchange that I made. As it turns out, her flight arrives in the morning and mine in late afternoon. I sent a message to Interval asking to have her name placed on the reservation so that she could check in before I arrive, which will be at least six hours. Interval replied that I would have to purchase a Guest Certificate to accomplish this.

Is this really the case or did I receive a canned answer? My daughter's last name and address is the same as mine.

They may or may not let her check in or register to be able to use the amenities until the room is ready. Their response is the official policy, but given the same last name and address, a checkin receptionist may overlook it. If you want to be certain that she can checkin or register when she gets there, pay for the guest certificate. If you are II Platinum, you get 5 free.

I don't want to risk that they wouldn't allow her to check in or allow her to use the facilities. That said, I'll opt for a GC.

You could also call the resort and ask them what their policy is. If they say that your daughter can check in before you, make sure to record their name.

One time we were traveling to Maui (home resort) with another couple. My wife had an emergency and when I called the resort telling them that my guests were arriving a few days before I could get there, they didn't have a problem letting them check in before my wife and me.

Our kids have checked in several times before we’ve arrived at Marriott (and other) resorts, and I’ve never gotten Guest Certificates for them. I simply contact the resort directly and let the front desk know our arrival times are staggered. If you are a Bonvoy member, you can link the Interval reservation to your account and add your daughter’s name to the reservation.

Yes. I would sort it out with the resort not the trading company. We just had our guests check in before us at a Bluegreen resort and there was no problem. They were very accommodating.

Case solved, I did contact Bonvoy and they were more than willing to add my daughter to the reservation. Thanks everyone for contributing your comments.
