Our taxes are still sitting with our accountant. I haven't been in contact with him since the end of February when we left for Maui. Dh and I are pretty sure we will need to pay, dd should get a refund. I don't know whether or not to bother him at this point. I probably should reach out just to make sure he's okay.

When we owe, I usually wait until close to the last minute to pay. When the due date was April 15th, I would send payment (via U.S. Mail) on something like April 12 (or so) and get a receipt from the Post Office in case I needed to support proof of payment.

But I agree with you Kurt - I am not paying any sooner than I have to.

The article states the offices are closed, but the people are continuing to work from home. Hopefully that will minimize the impact on tax returns. Personally, I think they are awfully late in closing their offices, as many companies have sent people to work from home weeks ago.

Raises hand.

I already filed, owe the state $358 and set it up as direct debit on Apr 15th. I can call in and change it but can’t be bothered to spend the time doing that. Its a paltry amount in the grand scheme of things.

Also, I guess all those stimulus checks will be placed on hold until it is safe to return to work for all IRS workers.

I need to read up on the stimulus checks. Why do you think they would be held up? Is the IRS going to issue them? Or is it access to the 2019 or 2018 tax information you think won't be available?

Okay I just did some research. The IRS would be issuing the checks. But I wonder if they have to be in their office to do so. I would imagine it's all being done online. And direct deposit for those who have that set up.
