I never, ever buy extended warranties, but thought maybe, just maybe with my iphone. I recently (like an idiot) broke the glass (and I realize this wouldn't have been covered), but it made me think how delicate the phone is.

Would you buy it? I think it's 69.
THANKS!

If it's only $69 I'd probably buy it. It's way too easy to break cell phones. What does it cover, however? If you dropped it in water or other things like that would it cover this? Would you receive a new one if they can't repair it properly?

The salesman always tries to sell it to you saying, just before the two years is up tell them your battery's not holding a charge and get a new one as they're more than $70 anyway.

The iphone has a history of problems. I typically buy warranties from SquareTrade. I have had a claim or two in the past but overall, their service seems to be excellent and MUCH CHEAPER than Best Buy warranties. When I got up this morning I noticed they have a special 40 percent off deal if you use the coupon code SCHOOL. I used it to buy a warranty for a refurb Apple 80gb IPOD I just got for one of my sons. I believe they even offer an Accidental Coverage (maybe with a deductible?) Check it out!:whoopie:

Another plug for Square Trade

I have numerous items under warranty with them, and their price always seems to beat the store/dealer warranty.

Interesting - I didn't know you could buy the warranties elsewhere.

We always get AppleCare on our Macs, and service is excellent. Unfortunately we missed the date on DS's MacBook Pro and the stinkers refused to let us get it a few weeks late. I'll check Square Trade.

On an iPhone, I don't know if I would. They've come down in price so much - though I don't know if you'd get the low price if you are still under contract (?)

PJ- I'm not sure what you are saying. Apple wouldn't sell you a warranty (or was it a MAC?) because you missed something by a few days??? I have purchased Apple warranties off of ebay (for IPODS). The regular warranty is for a year so, I just make sure to register the extended warranty before the year warranty is up.

The problem is that the year was more than up. I bought DS's latest MacBook in the Spring of '08, so around March '09 I went online to buy and register the extended warranty. Turns out I had gotten the computer at the end of February '08. I called and talked to two or three people, but couldn't get anywhere. We are all such heavy Mac users that inevitably toward the second or third year there are a few things that need to be fixed, especially on the laptops. Oh well.

Oh, now I understand! I just had a Maxtor external hard drive fail on my son's computer. I bought it slightly more than two years ago but didn't even give it to him until last year. Of course, the two year warranty was tied to the receipt not first use! I hate it when that happens. My fault for buying it on sale!!:bawl:
