Interval/Starwood Request First Advice

Much better week! That should do you well since it's Spring Break.

Katherine

I called back SVO and politely requested that they see if they could deposit an earlier week for me. The rep put me on hold, checked with the banking team, and was able to secure a week 13 (Mar. 29-Apr. 5) for me. Hopefully, this will work well for my June '09 trade. Now, I'll put my requests in with Interval.

Thanks again, Pat, for all your advice. I'm definitely going to save this thread for future reference. :)

Glorian
Good for you! :cheer:

But remember that you are allowed/entitled to pick the week you deposit;
you do not have to accept a bad week.

You know, this thread would be a good basis for the II sticky DeniseM mentioned not that long ago....

Update--Trade Success!

Thanks again to everyone for their advice--particularly Pat & FredM!

I'm pleased to report that my trade just came through on Interval. For my Spring break 2008 Vistana week, I received a Marriott Ocean Pointe unit for June 27-July 4. I did give up a 2 bedroom unit for a 1 bedroom, but given the limited dates I had to work with, I'm happy with that. The kids will just have to be satisfied with the pull-out sofa in the living room. Given that the week before will be spent going to WDW, I think they can live with that!

I'm particularly pleased that this trade came through quickly--now I know exactly which dates to book for the Orlando week, and I can stop worrying about whether or not everything will work out.

Glorian,

Very cool!! Nice trade.

You were smart to trade a 2 br for a 1 br. in this situation.
Naturally, many want it the other way around. They try to get more than they give. Others are happy to get what they give. Offering a 2 br for a 1 br is rarely done. It is perhaps the single best strategy to pole vault a request up the priority list.

It really is unfortunate you had to go through all these push-ups with Starwood to get what you already had reserved at SDO for the exchange. What should have been a straightforward and ordinary transaction turned into a roller coaster ride.

There is absolutely no net difference between an owner renting or gifting their use-week, and depositing it. Someone else is occupying the owner's reservation. Starwood should get out of the way. Interference for their own gain will breed resentment among the owner base, and not serve them well in the long run, IMO.

Congrats, Glorian :cheer: !

Thanks for reporting back, and glad it all worked out for your trip!

If we were traveling with others, then I would not have wanted to trade down to a 1 bedroom, but in this case it's fine. But it's good to know that this is something that can help a request come through. I hear how badly Orlando trades that I was quite concerned I would get nothing.

I certainly agree with this. When we bought SVN weeks we understood that Starwood controls the deposits into Interval. That's why for my Kierland unit, I used SFX. It particularly bothers me that Starwood also tries to control non-SVN weeks. Most people don't have the knowledge, time, or energy to push back.
