I have just joined Interval in order to attempt my first trade. I realize I do not know any of the rules! I cannot find them on the Intervalworld website. Will they be sending me a book to explain everything? For example, what is the difference between requesting first and depositing first. If I deposit first, how long do I have to find an exchange?
Thanks for any help.

First off, welcome!

Well I was not sure there was a list of rules! I get a directory every year from Interval with all of the resorts that I can attempt to trade into. In there is the instructions on how trading works.

On the Interval website is the "community" section. In there you should be able to find the info you need. Here is a link to the community section. I think you need to be logged in.

Here is a list of video tutorials that try to answer most questions

To answer your specific questions.

Deposit first means that you give your week to interval and they keep it. You then have a 3 year window to exchange - 1 year before the check in date that you deposited and 2 years after the checkin date.

Request first means you keep your week and request a week in exchange. If they have your request, you give them your week. If not, you keep it. The same 3 year window applies.

Feel free to ask more questions.

John

Thanks, John. I will try to absorb all the info you gave and the video tutorials, and will most likely be back with more questions!

If you do a search for 'Buyers Guide 2011 Interval International" you will be able to download their guidelines. It includes information on request first and deposit first along with a lot of other important information. I haven't seen a new guide come out so you may need to confirm any info with II. If anyone has seen a 2012 version I' d be interested to know.

Update - I just checked Interval's website and the 2011 guide is still the newest one posted.

Please note that the rules can vary, depending on what you own and deposit.

I have found the II community to consist of lots of very poorly informed folks - better get your information here on TUG.

The II home page has a link (through legal information) to the latest buyer's guide: http://www.intervalworld.com/pdf/iw/buyers-guide.pdf

Anything you can't find in there, ask away here on TUG.
