With so many fight cancellation, I do not know whether I should order the inter island flight with rewarding point and use priceline for hotel, car rental.

You don't have many choices for Interisland flights, but I think Hawaiian Airlines is the safest choice right now.

If I ordered the interisland fight. My flight cancel. what should I do ? Thx.

If Hawaiian Air cancels your flight, they will call you and change you to another flight, it doesn't matter if you pay for the flight or use FF miles.

When is your trip? During peak season the interisland flights in the middle of the day fill up, because all the mainland flights are arriving between 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., so I would make the reservation ASAP, so you can pick a good flight time and avoid having a long layover. If you will have checked luggage you need to give yourself at least 1 1/2 hours, more if you have a large group or some slower people with you. When you check-in at your home airport see if they will check your luggage straight through for you.

I do not worry about from ogg to koa. I worry about the flight from SEA to OGG's cancellation. I will go on Sept which is not peak season. but right now all the fee would increase. i would like to reserve first.

I'm sorry - I didn't understand the question. You are asking what will happen to your other reservations if your mainland flight is canceled - correct?

What airline are you flying on from the mainland? If you fly on Hawaiian Air from the mainland, you can book it all the way through as one reservation, and then HA will take care of both flights, if there is a change. It's cheaper to book it as one reservation, too.

If you book your mainland flight with one airline, and your interisland flight with another, and the mainland flight is canceled, you may lose your interisland flight, or have to pay a hefty rebooking fee to change the date.

If you are worried about cancellations, buy Travel Insurance.

I think that Denise is right about two reservations. However, if you book your mainland flight with NW or Alaska and they book your flight inter-island with Hawaiian or GO, than the mainland carrier should be responsible for covering the inter-island flight if something goes wrong. Same is true on the flight home if the inter island flight is late. However, I am use to flying standby and not up to date on all the latest changes.

I just bought tickets from HNL - Orlando and could have saved $100 per ticket with Cheap tickets and flown on two different airlines and three stops . I decided to play it safe and just bought tickets on Delta all the way. That way, if there are any problems with delays or luggage, Delta has to answer that question.

Thanks for the info., Tom! We always fly Hawaiian, so I don't have any experience with the other airlines to Hawaii. I didn't know you could book both flights on one Resv. with NW and Alaska, too.

I ordered my air ticket from Alaska(SEA-OGG) for Sept already. At the time, when some tugger posting about the SEA to OGG sale. I got the ticket first and think about it would not worry about the interisland flight and did not order to KOA. Right now when I should order OGG to KOA for Sept 13 .

Thx.

I would call Alaskan Air and see if you can add the next leg of the trip through them.

I haven't booked tickets with Alaska or NW and tried the interisland booking, but that is the way most airlines book tickets and that is the way United did it. Except United always used Aloha and other airlines used Hawaiian. Aloha was exclusive to United and could not code share with other airlines. United and Aloha backed each other up if a flight was late, the other airline covered it and waited for passenger or if the delay was too long, one of the airlines had to pay to fly the passengers later. I think that most code share agreements cover things like that. You need to ask the airline when buying the ticket. Sometimes you could buy tickets from Untied and later buy tickets from Aloha and they would still back each other up. However, they would never backup GO and I don't know how things were handled if the interisland flight ran late and the passenger missed their NW, Alaska, or American flight. I would see people flying interisland three hours early just so they didn't' have to worry about it. However, when you have to check out of your hotel in Maui at noon and the flight from HNL to SFO departs at 5:00 p.m., you might as well travel early.

Another issue is that code share agreements change all the time and whatever happened a month ago, might be different today.

Also, Aloha would not transfer bags from GO to Aloha. Passengers had to go to baggage claim get their bags and check them in again. That is a real hassle having to go through TSA all over again and there were some real unhappy passengers. They were mad at Cheaptickets, GO and Aloha. I think you should be safe on bag transfers when companies code share.

I plan to use my rewarding point to make reservation from Continental . Yesterday I tried on OGG to KOA Intra-Hawaii flights cannot be booked through this Web site. Please call the partner desk at 1-800-ALASKAAIR (1-800-252-7522).

I thought that I would take a look to see what code shares different companies are using and did a test from Seattle to Hilo on NW and Alaska. It looks like NW is using Hawaiian and Alaska is using GO or Hawaiian. I took a look at United and they are using Island Air. Also, it didn't look like a cheaper price to buy tickets from one carrier, but they should take care of you if they run late. I would ask that question before buying tickets.

However, when it comes to United, they are using Island Air; I might pass on that option and stick with flying Hawaiian interisland.

yan19454 - Were you able to book your interisland flight through Alaska using your award miles?

Are they going to book you all the way through?

Did you ask about their cancellation policy?

Code share agreements mean that one company can sell tickets on another airline. If you do a Google on Code Share, there is a lot of information about it. If you buy a ticket on NW and they sell you a ticket on Hawaiian to fly Maui to HNL to Seattle, they should be responsible for getting you to Seattle if the interisland flight gets canceled and you miss your mainland flight. I am not saying that they have to do that, but you have a good argument with NW if there are any problems.

Regarding the use of points: If you want to use Continental Points, NW points, or any other carrier; you are asking that company to write a check to Hawaiian or GO for the interisland flight. Hawaiian or GO doesn't want those points, but under some agreements, they might take them. Most of the time, it is like asking a carrier to write a check to you for the points that you have with them. Some of the carriers might do that if they sell a lot of tickets for another carrier. However, most don't want to do that.

United would take Aloha points, but they made it so difficult that when I tried to use my points, I just gave up.

On other news: go! airline reports another loss: $8.3M

I don't think the state will let them go out of business or leave town anytime soon. Too much damage was done earlier this year when Aloha shut down. However, they continue to have problems when they should be raking it in. They also have litigation coming up in October with the prior owners of Aloha. I would avoid buying tickets on them.

Denise:

I have not ordered yet. I will go to NYC for a couple days. Really busy at work. Still have time. As I know Sept is not peak season. If I consider the fly delay or something else, I should use purchased the whole ticket together. well.
