Interesting Exchanging back into HGVC

I know this is not available at all resorts, but I looked at exchanging back into HGVC on the Strip in Las Vegas. In Platinum season it takes 7000 points for a 2BR, yet in RCI I can exchange into the same week for 4800 points plus the exchange fee. Even with the difference in fees, it is pretty much a wash, but if you wanted to save your points for some reason, this is an interesting approach.

Has anyone done this ?

We had some points that were sitting in RCI do to a trip cancellation so we did just that. We used RCI to book a 2 bdr in Vegas for a week. RCI will tell you all about HGVC's 1 in 4 rule.

We also had a friend book a HGVC in Orlando through RCI just to save on points one year. It works great in Vegas and Orlando since both places have a lot of inventory.

We do it all the time IF the point requirements are lower thru RCI. We've done it thru HGVC/RCI and another straight RCI account that we have. We have even done the exchange thru RCI when the point requirements are the same but there was no availability in HGVC (happens more often than you'd think).

We got an HGVC resort through RCI that we couldn't have afforded if we booked it through HGVC because we didn't have enough points. Using RCI we not only had enough points we had a few hundred left over which we ended up donating to a program that gives HGVC vacations to members of the military and their families.

When making an RCI booking with HGVC points, you have to go thru HGVC, either online or the call-center. There is a unique point-chart that does not translate to RCI points or TPU's.

No advance deposit is required. The points are simply deducted from a members' account upon confirmation of a booking. Exactly what space HGVC offers RCI in exchange is up to HGVC.

It is possible to dedicate a number of points to HGVC's RCI program, internally. That is only done to keep points from expiring. It extends their useful life by two calendar years.
