While walking on the fairway of Tahquitz Canyon at dusk, I noticed a dark bird flying right at us. It then landed in a palm tree maybe 30 ft away. It was an owl staring at me. I watched the owl for a few minutes and continued our walk.

When we returned to our condo I looked up the lore of this area and it seems the spirts of this land recognize and respect me. Or it could be the owl is just hunting bunnies. Either way it was fun to see.

It was sizing you up for it's next meal.
We had an owl in our backyard that'd sit on a branch and watch us.
It was a bit unnerving. But it's moved on.

Wow -cool! It isnt very common to see owls in our area, but this winter some Great Grey Owls have decided to make Barrie Ontario their home for the winter. They are one of the largest types of owls, reaching 33 inches long and a wingspan of 5 feet. Our DS and family were out for a walk in the woods near their home last week and spotted one up in a tree. DS was showing us the photos last evening and that bird it big!
When we were in Belize I kept hearing a funny sound late in the evening, not the usual whoo whoo like an owl but more of an o-o-o-o-o-o (like a squeaky bed). I used my Merlin app to listen to it and Merlin told me it was a Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, one of the smallest owls at just 6-7 inches tall. Of course I could not see it in the dark and was never able to spot one in the daytime.

I was tent camping in the Southern Adirondack's a number of years ago. I had to take a late night stroll to the men's room in the dark. As I was walking over I feel a something touch the top of my head. I let out a brief scream, shine my flashlight up in the next tree and see and Owl just sitting there about 30 feet away. I got the impression the Owl was just waiting to see if I could do something about it. Stupid bird almost made me go to the bathroom before I got there.

When we lived in Kansas City, a Great Horned Owl established residence in a dead tree behind our house just beyond our fence. He was very social and would fly to a tree near my deck when I was grilling, and he actually would communicate. My neighbors probably thought I was nuts screeching with an own. Our Min Pin would only go outside when our big yellow mutt went with him, and was rightfully afraid of him.

Today I was thinking about the owl from last night. I wondered if there were something left unfinished or if I had missed something.

Then while packing I found the card of an artist I met a week ago. I had decided against the risks of buying the art. It was odd that I found the card . I knew I had it but while picking up a shirt the card fell out right in front of me. So I called him and told him who I was. He remembered me and asked if I had decided on the art. At that very moment I did. We ended up in Yucca Valley at his home and bought it. He is shipping it on Monday.

We continued our trip to another resort near the ocean. We were a little early for check in and ended up talking to a sales guy. I told him we were not interested in a presentation. He was pretty cool about it. While jiber jabing with him, my wife asks what was up with the people drinking wine . He said it was a gift to the guests that were going to attend the presentation. He knew we were not going but gave my wife a glass of wine. She liked it so he gave her a full bottle.

We got to our room and I thought what a councidence. Here is the wine bottle.

Came here to say, I want an Owl in my backyard to cure my mice problem. There must be one nearby. I saw the remnants of blood & fur in the snow a few weeks ago early one morning.

Then I saw the wine. I know that wine! Aldi!! About $4 a bottle. Enjoy!

I’m so glad you ended up purchasing that piece of art. Maybe that OWL on that walking trail was telling you to purchase that piece of art. That OWL on that bottle of wine, wink at up as given you a sign of approval. LOL

Captured this interesting encounter in my front yard about a month ago.

A few years ago an owl flew right at me in our driveway at night. It looked like a ball with eyes and wings. I did duck and cover but Im sure I wasnt on the menu. My guess is a bunny was.

Thats a really good clip Greg.

Run bunny, run!

There is a wee hours of the night visiting owl here. Not my land, unfortunately. Unlikely I’ll sit around in neighbors’ yard all night waiting for it. Apparently it likes a post near the chicken house. Since they put up for the night, I’m guessing he’s waiting for something coming for chickens. Some of the chickens sleep under bushes, another set likes to get on a roof then onto a tree branch up that tree. If Hootie wanted a chicken, he’d be raiding the bush or doing what the hawks do, pick one off in daylight when there are chickens up in the cow pasture.

Love the Winking Owl wine! Always amusing when fun coincidences occur. Or are they coincidences?

It may be a slightly better vintage than the old Kmarto wine.
