Although kids tend not to be so badly affected by COVID-19 and often have asymptomatic or mild cases, we are seeing kids who have decreased exercise tolerance, joint pain, fatigue, and brain fog after COVID-19 infection,” says Katharine Clouser, M.D., a pediatric hospital medicine specialist at Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health..

Although it is not yet clear how many children in the U.S. have been affected by this “long-COVID” syndrome, studies show that up to 40 percent of children in Italy and approximately 15-20 percent of children in England are experiencing “long-haul” COVID-19 symptoms.

A warning from Doctor Alina Alonso, the director of the Department of Health Palm Beach County: Just because you don’t see any COVID-19 symptoms in a child doesn’t mean damage hasn’t been done.

“And while many of these especially younger children are asymptomatic when you take x-rays of their lungs, down in Miami and other places across the country, they’re seeing that there is damage to the lungs in these asymptomatic children.”

While Alonso says there’s proof asymptomatic children are suffering lung damage now, she and other warn we also need to start thinking about the lasting consequences these kids may have to live with.

Long term consequences are common with many other viruses. This is panic peddling and it is very characteristic. Why are they taking Xrays of asymptomatic kids, irradiating kids for what? Have they done this before to compare to previous flu seasons? What is the base line here?

I am going to apologize to anyone I offended with my God-centered, libertarian views. That should cover any hurt feelings. I think Luanne was most offended, and I apologize to her for saying she is a germaphobe.

I follow rules, and I have a new appreciation for hand sanitizer and will be taking it everywhere I go. I have a gallon I use to refill my little bottles. Disney World is going to be a healthier trip after these last four with Covid rampant and me staying healthy. Of course, I did have Covid 3/1-3/4 and had the immunity all along, but I didn't get sick with anything at all during my 8 weeks of almost every day in a Disney park, from the fall of 2020 to our last trip, which ended this past Friday. Loving hand sanitizer.

You could have just said you were sorry like Lynne did with the Darwin comment. Was it really necessary to define your views as God centered and libertarian.

And gosh, I never realized you had directed your comments at me personally. I said originally that Asians wear masks. And that set you off.

An xray is not recommended to identify heart damage? A known side effect for both adults and children. We get xrays all the time for a lot less severe problems. I guess now an xray is more dangerous than covid. SMH

apology accepted
(I'm the opposite of a germaphobe ;))

They say they are asymptomatic but it is not explained why they take the Xrays. They may be there for other problems and they happen to see they are positive as well, that does not mean the root cause is Covid but the virus is blamed today for everything.

Maybe just maybe to check for the known side effect of heart and lung damage in both kids and adults. But yes the xray is the problem not that children have heart damage.

Aileen Marty, MD, professor of infectious diseases at Florida International University, says the hazy areas are areas of inflammation. It’s a sign that the lung is sick. She has seen it for herself. In her hospitals, 67% of people who don’t feel ill but test positive for COVID-19 have some changes in their lungs that can be seen on CT scans.

What I find interesting is how on this thread, people seem to be encouraging others to go up to a maskless person and try and get them to wear one but in a different thread, a maskless person let's a masked person know they don't have to wear a mask (context or mannerisms unknown since they weren't shared) and the person was called an idiot. This seems so hypocritical as one side is encouraged to do something but if the other side does the same thing they are admonished.

In looking through the forum, this thread reminded me of an interaction at a store last week. I walked into a beauty supply store to pick up an order for the wife and I did not have a mask on. In Arkansas, the mask mandate was lifted earlier in the month by the Governor, but stores were (and are) still free to do their own thing.

At any rate, as I entered the store, a store associate came toward me quickly from the left and started saying something about masks I could not understand as she was talking very fast. Much like those lines employees have to say repeatedly and daily, no doubt she unconsciously ramped up the delivery speed over time. While I did not know the entirety of what she was saying, it was clear she was referring to the wearing of a mask in the store.

Now this interaction could have went in any number of directions, but even though I did not understand her, her pleasant smile and the fact she was offering me a mask (a solution to the problem) disarmed a potential situation before it could really get started. I thought she handled the interaction very pleasantly and professionally - in such a way that I (the customer) did not feel alienated.

Last year they used these half baked arguments to keep many schools closed and many of these articles were timed perfectly around key moments. They proved to be overblown and the kids have been fine. Even the CDC admitted it eventually. Sorry we are wasting too much time with this. Have a good night.

OK ... good night

Did the store post a "Mask Required to Enter" policy at the entrance? If not, that is where this store and every other store with an unposted mask policy make their mistake.

Do not wait for customers to enter unmasked; post the business policy at the entrance and let customers decide. So simple ...

What a weird thread. I guess covid has more problems than I originally thought. I always thought it was odd that people were afraid of a disease with over a 99% good outcome for all age groups. There are just under 7.7 billion people on Earth and about 3.5 million covid deaths. The covid death rate is about .000454545 in total to date.

The odds of a side effect from the covid vaccine are far greater than the odds of death from covid but a sore arm really can't compare with death.

Certainly, I think that 3.5 million deaths is terrible. The death rate did increase in 2020 and it was reported that the increase was because of covid but many of these deaths are covid related and not full blown sars.

If a person wants to wear a mask or not wear a mask is of little consequence at this point, imo. Why should anyone care if a person feels safer with a mask or as safe without a mask ? Its like caring what color a persons shirt is, imo.

Bill

So if you have been vaccinated, don't wear a mask because you are VACCINATED. The people who aren't wearing masks and haven't had the vaccine, that is called personal responsibility. It's on them. If they get Covid, they get it and will have to live with their choices. It's called freedom and personal responsibility for one's own health. When did we dictate to people that they must have vaccines and flu shots?

I have the vaccine.

Went to WalMart yesterday to buy potting soil, half of the people had masks, most of the employees still seemed to wear them but not all. Costco, 75% of customers had no masks. The pharmacists and people at the optical department, no masks. That was good to see. Still plexiglass between customers and cashiers, but most were not wearing masks.

This is a positive thing to see.
Better check your laws. That's not how it works in Hawaii. There is (supposedly) a $5000 fine for not wearing masks...but it does not seem to be being enforced. When we were on Front St in Lahaina a few days ago, about one out of 5 or 6 people were not wearing masks.

You may be right. I have seen reports that say masks produce only about a 2%-3% reduction in the spreading of covid-19.

So even the police in Hawaii think a $5,000 fine for not wearing a mask outdoors is stupid and refuse to enforce it.

In Hawaii the fine is Up to $5,000. The actual fine is accessed by the court. The below is the last I had seen about what is being accessed. I didn’t see anything about the other islands but I didn’t look too hard.

Nearly all coronavirus-related citations filed by Honolulu police on Oahu have ultimately been dismissed, KITV reported.

And yet another poster states 20% of the people were not wearing masks.

Not to mention, the story you posted is over 2 months old. Seriously old news.

As they should be.

You have made your points on how you percieve mandates from other states that are not to your liking. I have made my points clear that the state has every right to require a mask indoors and when not able to social distance.

Since you have no intention of coming to the state anytime in the near future, maybe you should discountine your postings and become a member of TUG or just find another forum to relay your views. There really is no reason to continue this back and forth.

Interesting. So since we disagree on a topic I should shut my mouth and become a member since that would solve all our problems. That would be hilarious except I think you're being serious.

I completely agree that every state has the right to do as it wishes (State's rights and all) and I thank God that I live in a state that doesn't resort to draconian measures.

So since you wish to stop this back and forth, you are free to not respond to this post. ;) Otherwise, I will have to assume you wish to continue this back and forth.
