Insights on putting your Wyndham ownership into a trust?

We own several point weeks at Grandview at Las Vegas that give us an RCI points account. The highest point one bedroom weeks are 61,000 and 49,000 points with 2022 maintenance fees of $438.50. For a two bedroom it's 122,000 and 98,000 points/$877 maintenance fees. Both unit sizes also have two more lower point weeks but since the maintenance fees are the same regardless of how many points that makes them a poor value.

For us mixing and matching what we book with our Wyndham points and what we book with those RCI points works very well. We did a 110 night trip this Spring, 14 resorts in 8 states. The entire trip was all timeshare stays. Eight weeks of that trip were Wyndham and Worldmark resorts I booked with our RCI points account. We have a 75 night trip to the New England states coming up. Two of the four weeks I booked with our RCI points account are at a Wyndham resort.

You can book less than full week stays with RCI however not all resorts do that and you pay a housekeeping fee for less than full week stays. Last week the exchange for a week with RCI went up to $269. You can also book longer than 7 night stays in one reservation. I booked a two week stay in one reservation at the other resort for our Fall trip and the exchange fee for that is now $319. For our trip next Spring I was able to book one resort for 20 nights in one reservation with the now $319 exchange fee. Not all resorts offer longer than one week stays that can be booked in one reservation.

If we lived on the West Coast I would have been interested in owning Worldmark points. I've seen OP post about bonus time with Worldmark. I think you only get that with a developer purchase. Not sure if its still being offered.
Worldmark bonus time is available on a resale ownership.

You get Bonus Time, Inventory Specials, and Monday Madness. Which are all cash reservations that cost less then then what I am paying in MF. Much less since the cost of the housekeeping is included in the cash price. No developer purchase required. Resale get those benefits also.
Perfectly worded! BT, IS & MM great option and less expensive then paying maintenance fees. I have to mention these cash options only work if you can be flexible with travel plans.

For those who may not know - how does a Wyndham owner determine what type of RCI account they have? When Wyndham automatically provisions an RCI account connected to their Wyndham login - is this an RCI points account or an RCI weeks account? I'm assuming it's an RCI points account since Wyndham deals in points as a general rule - but this is just an assumption on my part. I don't see anywhere in my Account area when logging into my Wyndham RCI account that tells me what RCI account type I have for example, other than my "Available Points" section which again, leads me to believe that Wyndham owners receive an RCI points login by default. For those who happen to also own RCI weeks, must they have a separate login for their RCI weeks? Again my assumption is yes.

Wyndham owners have an RCI weeks account. To have an RCI points account you would have to own at a resort that exchanges in RCI and also own something that's in RCI points. You pay an annual membership fee that's never free for RCI points accounts.

I was thinking that our RCI Wyndham weeks account was the same weeks account that our two Massanutten weeks we got for our PICs are in. However from what I can tell that's not correct. I guess we have two weeks accounts.

That's not how I understand it. From everything I've gleaned over time (and again, I don't have it so I can't verify it personally), retail purchases that have PlusPartners and therefore Nightly Stays, that Nightly Stays ability necessarily means they have access to RCI Points inventory. It's also the way I've seen it discussed in the DVC sightings thread (prior to the move to II) - sometimes DVC will deposit weeks inventory, and sometimes they'll deposit points inventory, and retail Wyndham owners generally can see those DVC deposits into points while resale-only (weeks only) Wyndham owners cannot.

I'm not sure what inventory a Wyndham RCI account sees. However it is still considered a a weeks account.

I just remembered that when I recently set up our two PICs I had to call RCI and they told me we now have two weeks accounts in addition to our points account. Answered my own question about that. Lol.

For those of you who know about PICs they have to be deposited at least I think it's nine months out to get the Wyndham points that year. Since we didn't take on ownership of our weeks in time to do that for 2022 we got the TPUs this year. I've been forcing myself to learn more about using the TPUs, the Weeks website and looking at the inventory. I can now confirm first hand that there's more available on the Points website than on the Weeks website.

So does a Wyndham RCI Weeks account see more inventory than a regular Weeks account? It very well could be a unique hybrid type of account. Wyndham and RCI are part of the same company. Do HGCV and other chains RCI Weeks accounts see the same inventory? Maybe, maybe not since they're not part of that same company?

Maybe someone else will log into both their Wyndham RCI account and their other Weeks account and check to see if both show the same inventory.

I guess one thing doesn't make sense to me with respect to what you and @paxsarah are saying. I'm a developer owner who started out as a developer account, and then added resale a bit later. In my Wyndham RCI account - if it's a weeks based account - then why do my Wyndham points transfer to my RCI weeks based account? Can a RCI weeks account leverage points? Here's what I see in my Wyndham RCI account right now as a point of reference:

I think it helps to think of the distinction as the inventory you're able to see and book in RCI, rather than what you're using to exchange for the inventory (at least when coming through a minisystem portal). A Wyndham RCI portal account is always going to deal in Wyndham points - that does not necessarily make it an RCI points account. The question is, what inventory do you see when you get there? You may see RCI weeks inventory (meaning someone deposited their week and got TPUs for it), or you may see RCI points inventory (coming from someone who owns a resort in RCI points). (I'm not completely sure, but it seems most minisystems with portals can deposit weeks inventory or points inventory or both, and I'm not sure how they determine that - as I mentioned above DVC depositing both types at different times.) RCI weeks inventory can be booked for only a full week at a time; RCI points inventory (at least in some cases) can be booked for more or less than 7 nights.

Regardless of the semantics of whether it should be called an "RCI points account," the reality is that retail Wyndham owners have an RCI minisystem portal account that can book RCI points inventory and nightly stays, which also can see/book weeks inventory as well. Resale-only owners (even though we are also exchanging with Wyndham points), have access to only RCI weeks inventory and can't book nightly stays. In shorthand we've used "points" or "weeks" to make the distinction about the two different types of accounts based on the inventory available to them.

I just had a revelation! I'm thinking that third account we have might not be the old Wyndham RCI Weeks account anymore. They told me they saw three accounts but did they specifically say two Weeks accounts? Could it now be a second Points account?

Remember a few years ago when Wyndham made changes in how our Wyndham RCI accounts worked? Anyone else remember the old RCI red, white or blue weeks you booked and that you had to deposit points in specific increments?

Back in June I set up our Weeks account for the two PIC weeks and had to call RCI for help. I'd tried logging in with our original Fairfield/Wyndham RCI account number and it wasn't recognized. A few minutes ago I logged into Wyndham and went to the RCI account. It now shows our Wyndham member number and not that old account number.

I think if I compare the inventory I see with our Weeks account to what I see with the Wyndham RCI account that will give me the answer I'm looking for.

HI Jan - yes I remember the old RCI days. 1 week = 28,000 points.
I have 2 completely separate RCI accounts as it sounds like you do. The one that looks like what @HitchHiker71 shows and another completely separate at www.rci.com where my 2 PICs reside. Why you have a 3rd is a mystery.

How did you get the RCI account where your two PICs reside separately? Do you recall? I seem to only have the Wyndham RCI account that was provisioned when I became a Wyndham owner - yet I do have two PIC Plus contracts and don't "see" my two PIC weeks in my Wyndham RCI account anywhere. I suspect I will end up having to call RCI to figure this out...

When I bought my first contracts and my RCI account was set up, in addition to the portal connection from the Wyndham owner site, I also received an RCI account number (I think I actually received a welcome letter and membership card from RCI in the mail). With that number I was able to set up a direct login to RCI.com. I can still use that login, and it has all of my contact information that agrees with my Wyndham and RCI portal contact info. Because I don't have any fixed weeks I don't use it for exchanges, but I suppose I could. I could also buy Last Call or Extra Vacations there (though I really have no reason to).

So I don't know what they do now - I suspect they don't send out that welcome information directly from RCI anymore. But surely there's some way to get your hands on your RCI-specific member number, and it might still be possible to set up the direct login that way. There used to be a place you could find it, either buried in the Wyndham account info or the RCI portal account info, but both have changed format since then and I can't find it anywhere (other than my direct RCI.com login, which doesn't help anyone else).

I believe I called member services and they gave me my RCI account number. I set up a direct login on rci.com, and used that login to deposit my Christmas Mountain Village weeks for exchanges (and I could have also deposited my Sheraton Broadway Plantation as well).

Interesting - I do have some correspondence from RCI - I'll have to dig it out and see if it lists a member number that is different than my Wyndham RCI member number that starts with an "a9...". If not then I'll have to call into RCI and see if I can have them locate a separate RCI account number for me to use apart from my Wyndham provided RCI account.

I have a weeks account paid for by Wyndham that is different from the account I access from the Portal from within Wyndham. don't know why you would have a 3rd account though.

My RCI member number when I log in direct is completely different than my Wyndham member number, but it is a Wyndham-provided account; I've never paid a dime for it. If I go to RCI through the Wyndham portal it shows my Wyndham member number under the "Account Overview" .

I have 3 RCI Accounts.
- One with RCI points from regular RCI points resorts.
- One with RCI TPU points from regular RCI weeks resorts. And,
- One that I access via the Wyndham portal that uses Wyndham points.
I'd love to dump the regular RCI points account, but, I've not found a taker (free) for the points resort. I've actually thought about just not paying the MF's on it any more to see what happens.

For the record, my Wyndham points are not in a trust while my RCI Weeks Deeds (including PIC's) are. We chose to put the Wyndham Account Contracts in the name of myself, spouse, and the 3 adult children. The kids will keep the Wyndham contracts on our passing and can decide what to do with RCI Deeds (keep or refuse) later on.

You have an PCI points account, that is why you have a 3rd. But @Zeke_62 appears to only have weeks accounts, yet appeared to have a 3rd RCI account.

Officially I have at least 5 RCI accounts:
Straight up points (but I don't own any points anymore, so the account is now dormant.)
Straight up weeks, paid by Wyndham
Access via Wyndham Portal
Access via HGVC Portal
Access via HICV Portal

Grandview at Las Vegas is in the Vacation Village family of resorts. If you own a week there it gets you two of their VV Extra Weeks per calendar year that can be booked within 45 days of the check in date for appoximately the exchange fee with no points needed. There's more available with those VV Extra Weeks than what's availble in the RCI Last Call Weeks. Vacation Village also has promotions once or twice a year. I also pay the extra to get the RCI platinum benefits you see listed below because I really use some of those benefits.

This is the list of our RCI stays going back a year up to what I have booked for 2023. Thanks to COVID we had a lot of points to use up. I may sell one of our 122k point Grandview weeks to downsize since we bought more Wyndham points and enrolled two PIC weeks. If you don't know about PIC weeks, ask and I'll explain.

This is incredibly helpful. I think I'm going to look at starting with some position in RCI points and work from there. Thanks for all your help.

I have 2 timeshares, both in I family trust. Attorney says after I am gone, this enables successor’s to sell or gift it away otherwise it just sits outside with no one able to sign, until the resort takes it back. Never had a problem booking with either RCI, Sheraton or Hilton.

I've seen people posting about how much of a headache it is to get things transferred to their names after the family member passed. Also it took much longer than I thought it would, 4-6 months. During that time they weren't able to make reservations which could be a problem if they had a lot of points and not much time left in the use year.

So if there's a trust would that eliminate all the phone calls, paperwork and waiting time?

With a trust do you have to get everything re-deeded? Do you have to pay Wyndham their $299 fee for each contract? How does it work for reservations with a trust, do have to use guest certificates for the family members?

Back in the Fairfield days we added our son as soon as he turned 21. Wyndham allows you to add family members at 18. Some people said they've added their 16 year olds but maybe that's just in a trust? Also from what OP have said if an 18-20 year old's name is on the account as an owner they can check in. Guests must be 21 or in some cases 25 but apparently that doesn't apply to owners?

You've provided some great insight and information. Thank you so much for sharing your vast knowledge and experience. Seeing that you've booked with RCI, I was curious about your thoughts on owning a resort that gave you Registry Collection access. I don't know a lot about it, other than most of the resorts are high-end. At this stage of my timeshare journey, I would say I am interested in purchasing resale over developer. I do own developer points through Wyndham and was grandfathered in at SVIP. Another question that comes to mind surrounds WorldMark. I've noticed that I cannot easily book WorldMark resorts using my Wyndham ownership. Since I am considering buying more Wyndham points (resale), I was curious if you felt buying WorldMark points (resale) would be advantageous given my current ownership (EOYE:210k, w/ two PICS contracts @ 154k each, also EOYE). Thanks so much for your valued time and attention!
