Input needed considering DR- Punta Cana or Puerto Plata

We are members of II and RCI. Tossing around DR. Love to be on the beach but have read it's unsafe outside the resorts.

How much pp per day normally is the AI and is the food any good? We do not drink much. I mention this because AI is a good option for a week's vacation if drinks & meals are included.

What resorts would you recommend? Are they all standard size rooms or do any have a sitting area?

Don't take Playa Naco as an RCI trade. Absolutely horrible.

I know that we have to pay a pp AI fee on DR trades but I did not know it was $4200. I can travel and eat for far less than that price. Same as those cruise exchanges.

47.50 x 2 x 7 = $665. Guess I will call the exchange companies for more info and hope I get the right info.

I know people who have booked DR trips for $1100 a person including room/meals/airfare in Punta Cana and Puerto Plata. I know this all depends on time of year.

There are DR getaways now for $197.00 plus AI fee. I figured the AI fee must be pricey. Can't recall II or RCI as I belong to both.

Keep in mind the $600/day AI fee is per Villa and covers up to 6 Adults. That being said, if it was just 2 of us, I would make sure I stayed somewhere that did not charge a per unit AI. This would still be in the vicinity to $80-$100 per day pp.

Thanks, I am learning more and more. In all the trips we have taken over time we have never done one with AI yet. Water/beaches look so beautiful especially since I am seating here freezing waiting on another snow storm.

I live in florida and still like going there its 70 here and we are cold right now its 80 there, my wife and I like to go about 4 times a year

the AI is a good way to go you know your cost before you leave home, we use to do cruises but got tired of a huge bill at the end
