Flying out next week and plans are to hop Amtrak to Seatac and stay overnight before a morning flight.

Saw in Marriott.com a "Zone" hotel.. Very strange. My understanding is it was a Wyndham Wingate and it's getting rather secretly rebranded to a Marriott Courtyard in the near future. However in the interim it's a "Marriott Zone" hotel. What's more interesting is I saw a ton of complaints breakfast is $13 regardless of Bonvoy Elite status. Many not knowing this had breakfast and got a surprise bill. I called the Elite Bonvoy desk to see what they thought and they said you absolutely get breakfast. I said "But there are a ton of complaints online" and they said they would call the hotel and check. The rep came back and said "sorry for the incorrect information provided, Platinum Elites that normally get breakfast do not at this hotel"...

It's right next to SeaTac so I am still going to stay and I will pass on the "Wyndham Wingate" $13 breakfast at the Marriott branded hotel :)

Courtyard properties have never provided free breakfast for elites. Perhaps they are considering that it will be a Courtyard in the figure and not offering that? I never assume I get free breakfast unless I am explicitly told that at checkin.

My last few trips, I've stayed at the Residence Inn - SEA-TAC on International Blvd. An OK breakfast, good shuttle to airport. If you are going to be there during daylight hours, rooms in the back have a nice view over an adjacent lake.
You could probably catch their shuttle from rail station to the motel.

Courtyards do not provide free breakfast. Elites get a $10 F&B credit per night per person. (Elite +1 max)

International Courtyards typically have lounges, domestic ones do not.

Though they vary, for elites most Courtyards do provide either food and beverage credits ($10 per guest and another for one add’l guest) and others give a breakfast voucher. Evidently there are some courtyards that do not participate but I’ve never stayed in any.

I've stayed at a number of courtyards and called many others over the last few years. Other than during the main time of lock down, I've never been offered any breakfast options. During lockdown they had a PP bag breakfast.

At Courtyards, I’ve always been offered a free market item or the $10 (x2 if with a guest) daily breakfast credit. Although you have to tell the restaurant staff you are using your credit at time of purchase, otherwise it will not be automatically credited on your folio.

Isn't the $10 F&B credit the welcome gift? Meaning you can take that or the 1,000 (if Plat or Titanium) Bonvoy points?

Yes, but at Courtyard it’s 500 points not 1000.

So it’s either the $10 pp/pd or the 500 points.

The $10 is a much better option assuming you plan to order any food & drink since 500 pts is worth like 4-5 bucks.

Yeah, that sounds right, 500 points or the breakfast credit. I know they always ask me my preference and it’s always the food credit.

Courtyard was always considered a "business" hotel brand. Meaning the properties could milk the expense accounts of business travelers. Business travelers were not usually paying out of pocket so they didn't care if they had to pay for breakfast as it was just reimbursed or paid for on the company credit card.

I always laugh at the 500 or 1000 Bonvoy points as bonus for Elite members. That is really so low these days…as the Bonvoy reward point program devalues year after year.

I now choose the $10 f&b voucher….even if just good for some a snacks/drinks. My kids have enjoyed it our last few stays. I let them pick their own candy/chips…which they can bring in the car or airplane. More beneficial in my view.

The problem is, with the prices they charge for those snacks and beverages the $10 doesn't go very far.

True. We generally get about 4 items (2 candy, 2 chips/drink). In reality…that is probably less than $4-5 worth at most. I guess it’s moot. Neither option is really a great value these days.

Although, the excitement from the kids on picking their own candy….covers the extra cost. ;) . Sorta like the free continental breakfast at some hotels….it’s okay, but the kids love it!
