I've been searching II online for one particular resort every day for several months. Two of my affiliated resorts could pull lots of weeks there, but the third couldn't ever see any. I decided to test whether an ongoing search has more power than an online search, so I put in an ongoing search against the weakest of my deposits. At that time, I couldn't find the week I wanted online using any of my deposits. That led me to guess that it wasn't in the system at all. Two weeks later I received a confirmation for the exchange using my weak trader!
The moral of this story is, if you have an II dog trader, put in an ongoing search.....maybe :ponder:

Keep in mind that, when you're looking online, you're looking at everything that's managed to slip through the system. If you know where you want to go and know the date range you want to be there, I've always felt it best to deposit as early as possible and start an ongoing search. I've had better luck getting tougher trades with an ongoing search than searching on my own online.

FWIW, just because you have an ongoing search doesn't mean you should stop looking online with the week you have your search with. Sometimes, things still slip through and that week your looking for with your ongoing search will be spotted using that same week with an online search. Such can be the quirks of an exchange company.

The deposit that matched via the ongoing search was the same deposit that couldn't see ANY of the dozen or so weeks from the desired resort, even though they were sitting there online, unwanted. ("everything that's managed to slip through the system") There were even smaller units at the same time of the year, that I couldn't pull online with my weak trader. Yet when I put in an ongoing search for a larger unit, same resort, same season, it matched.
This is not just a matter of grabbing a unit before it has a chance to appear online. It seems that the same deposit used in an ongoing search has stronger trading power than it does when it's used to search online.

This could be explained with one of the following:
1) There was an on-line glitch that prevented your dog trader to see those weeks.
2) The computer (because of the parameters that it had been fed) decided that your trader did not have enough trade power to pull the weeks; but a human reviewer doing a routine manual intervention review decided to match it with one of those weeks sitting unwanted on line.

Conclusion that can be drawn from this:
If you know your range of dates and resorts, it's always best to put in an on-going search, except when you can't, because the size you want is larger than that of your week (in which case if you request at a resort that only has the larger size, you still can). Even if there is nothing that is sitting on line (that can be seen with a stronger trader), it could be matched with a week in the withheld inventory.

Thanks, this gives me another possible use for those dog Worldmark deposits that I might get at times. :whoopie:

thats great to hear! ill have to remember this when i search again on II

I'm new to this so I apologize if this has been already answered, what is the difference between an online search and a ongoing search? I placed a requests with 5 choices for Feb 2010 against the week we did't use in Feb 09.
I am waiting to hear if we are sucessful with any of them.

An ongoing search is when you put in an on-going request for II to look for an exchange for you. An online search is when you log onto their website and look yourself. Ongoing requests are filled before any units are posted on the website for online searches.

It sounds like what you have is an "ongoing" search.
You can also do "online" searches against the same deposit (until you get a confirmation) by going to "My Account", "Ongoing Searches" and clicking on "Take a peak".

Is is possible to do an on-line search with an ac?

I have one that will expire in July and I look atleast 3-4 times a day and tried to do an online search but it only gets me so far.

I have always noticed a human touch at II. Shortly after entering any ongoing search, I ALWAYS get a call from them offering me something close or asking if I would accept a smaller unit or do I want to extend my membership, etc. I think there is an attitude of "Make a Match", if you can and get that exchange fee! In the OP case, I think they took the opportunity to "Make a match", even though the unit used did not have sufficient power.
There are a few stratagies available when dealing with II, I believe using a week trader(Request first) with an ongoing search can prove to be fruitful as II does not get to keep the exchange fee until a match is made. Sometimes the exchanges are just not there, but I do believe that II with stretch trading power to make an exchange.

An AC usually has limitations - did you look to see when it can be used?

I have looked to see when it can be used...maybe I miss understood something. I thought if it was within the 60 days, anything would show up and it didnt matter on size, location or trading power.''

also, if I see something that is appealing ....can I make an exchange with my AC, but if for some reason( like not being able to get time off from work.) Do I have 24 hrs. to recind it?

I'm afraid this one might go to waste.

Yes - that's correct. Please clarify the problem that you are having.

Moderator,

Sorry, I haven't been on in a couple of days.

My problem is...I insert all my request & dates but I can't go any further than that.

There isn't a tab to "continue"....looks like payment is the next step. Is there a charge for this? As I said, it expires 7/22. Would love to use it to go somewhere within a 8-10 hr drive. Also from NE and know it is a very low probability of getting anything....just thought maybe last minute something might show up. I try all day long.

I appreciate any tips on using this AC more sufficiently.

Moderator,

Sorry, I haven't been able to be on for a couple of days.

My problem is....when I try to do the online search feature. I can put in all my resorts and dates that I would like. But from there I can't go any further. There isn't a tab that would have me "continue" or "submit". It looks like the next step is payment. Is there a fee for this?

My AC expires 7/22 and would love to use it. We are looking for something fairly local. We would travel up to 10 hrs. Live in NE so the probablity that something would arise is low....but maybe last minute.

I appreciate any tips on using this AC more efficiently than I have been. We have another that expires next March.
