II now shows "usage year" for units?

I don't remember seeing this mentioned elsewhere, but I just noticed in my II account that the various units are listed twice, one set having a "2015" usage beside them, and another set having a "2016" usage beside them.

Did they change this recently?

This would imply to me that you could actually keep track of which usage year you're relinquishing for a specific II trade, which was previously a bit of a pain to do, correct, since they just had one placeholder for each unit?

And there's a great big "Deposit Unit" button beside each one as well. Does this replace the act of contacting SVO to designate the unit for deposit?

Unfortunately, this is how it's been for years. It doesn't track multiple units at the same resort separately nor intelligent handling of EOY deeds and is not really tied to a specific deed when you have multiple at the same resort. For instance, when I added my second SDO unit I didn't have to pay anything to II since the connection with that resort was already established. If you only have one annual deed per resort this is sufficient as is.

I used the deposit unit button earlier this year and it worked without my needing to contact Starwood

You do not need to contact starwood as long as you have already pre-paid MF.
The individual units have been showing for a few years now. Supposedly interval knows which unit is which if you have identical seasons. It doesn't show for the II member so you may want to check. Once you make and exchange or request then the option for that year no longer appears in II. Under memberships they should list all your units including multiples of the same kind.

The revert back to a deposit first as well as a request first has been several months, probably since the beginning of the year. The notification from starwood also mentioned that you no longer had to make the request through starwood but could do both request first and deposit first directly through interval as long as MF's were paid.
