When you go to try and do an exchange - does the TDI of the resort you're looking at need to be <= the TDI of your deposit? Or do say a smaller unit (1BR vs 2BR) show up for some amount of TDI over the exchanged resort? Will it tell you if you set up an OGS that will never match because of a TDI disparity?

Also, I've yet to do an OGS in either RCI or II but given my recent acquisition of some II properties for trading, I figure I need to understand it. The II website sure isn't intuitive lol. From what little I've gathered from people talking on this forum, it sounds like I should pick some places I'd like to go, and then IDK put in a search for a few? Do I pre-pay the exchange fee? Do I need to be gold or platinum to see some of the size upgrades sometimes in screenshots? Can you do that in an OGS?

I have a second I'm waiting to close on that is a 2BR LO - Many recommend locking off, but would that likely leave me with 0 matches? If I locked off how does II know?

TDI is just a general guide. II doesn't not disclose their trade power like RCI does with TPU. It won't tell you an OGS won't match, II will call you to attempt to scare you into taking a lesser exchange. Learning to trade in II is an ongoing process. Following the Sightings forum and then going in and searching for the same resorts with your deposits will give you the best idea of what resorts/units you can see with what you have.

You don't need gold or platinum II to get better exchanges. They won't give you more trade power. They will give you discounts on the upgrade fees. You can request a larger unit with an OGS (pending request), but that does reduce your chances of a match as larger units usually require more trade power. Again, test trade power by comparing your units to what you see in sightings.

II knows because you only deposit each side of the lock off. So if you have a lock off that breaks into a studio and 1BR, then you deposit a studio and a 1BR separately. The trade power of your assigned deposit is partially based on the size of the unit you deposit.

Is the larger unit shown in the normal search result, or is it like the airplane thing where as you're going through booking you get offered an upgrade for a fee?

When you do instant searches, II will show you units that are available for exchange. This will be units that are the same size, smaller, or larger than what you are offering. If your unit has the trade power, then it will return everything you can exchnage into. It will show the applicable upgrade fee on the very first set of search results.

I agree with everything @dioxide45 has said, who has way more experience trading than I do (I just started this year). I did some test exchanges with the studio side of a Marriott week I own and I can see 2BR exchanges for some resorts. They are usually either last minute exchanges or for weeks in non-peak seasons. Having said that, the studio rarely sees Hawaii weeks that are last minute exchanges. The 1BR side seems to see more 2BR exchanges. I hope this helps.

You should set up an ongoing search request because you never know
when the resort/week you want will suddenly become available. It will go to the
first ongoing search request with enough trade power.

However, you must log on every day to make sure your request is still under "My Units".
If it is ever missing, it probably matched. You will see the match under History > Exchanges

You should receive an email informing you of the match, but, unfortunately, there are occasions
when the email doesn't show up. You only have 24 hours to CALL II if you wish to decline the match,
so the earlier you know about the match, the better.

I learned that Worldmark red season doesn't equal II exchange strength. It really turned me off. Anymore, I call II to check to find my exchange value.

What is the measure of this "exchange value" and how is it quantified or described?

Worldmark Red, Blue and White values are listed on their website. In the white season at some resorts there may be a week or two of red season due to a holiday. The exchange I did with II was a Red value Worldmark 2 bed unit for New Years holiday week that started a few days before New Years. In II this turned out to be a low trading power week but it did work out only because we were going to Carnival in Mazatlan and were able to use that week for a two bed Mayan Palace.
