I feel like this is a question I should know the answer to ... but I don't. We trade through II so infrequently, that I'm not well versed.

Can I trade my Marriott 2 BR for a larger unit through II?

Basically, we're wanting to get a 3 or possibly even a 4 BR unit for a trade next year? Is it possible to trade into a 3 or 4 BR when I only own a 2 BR? If so, what (if any) are the hoops I need to jump through to have a chance at effectuating this?

Firstly, the resorts that you are wanting to trade into must have 3 or 4 bedrooms, otherwise it is a moot point.

Then...
For ongoing search (place a request), you can only ask for 2 bedrooms if the resorts have 2 bedrooms and upwards. However if a resort has ONLY 3 bedrooms or larger, you can place a request against those resorts because if you get a match you will get what they have, i.e., 3 br or larger. I have not come across resorts that have only 3BR or larger.

For instant exchange, where you do a search and find something available, you can exchange into whatever size you see.

While it is possible it is difficult because very few 3 and 4 br units are deposited with II. Many of the larger units also lock off so when owners do choose to deposit they lock off and deposit as two smaller units. There are some larger non lock off units. You can not request a larger unit for an ongoing search so you either have to just see one and grab it during a manual online search or request a 2 br at a location that you know has 3 br units and keep calling to reject and cancel the smaller unit while continuing the search or resorts that only have 3 br units. I think there may be some Marriott's in Orlando.

Where and when are you looking at? Marriott only or Marriott and non Marriott.
If Marriott only Orlando may happen. Hilton Head off season might happen. Hawaii and Caribbean would not be very likely. I really don't know Spain well but I would think it might be a possibility off season.

I actually own Marriott in Orlando. I'm looking to go to Williamsburg late summer/early fall next year. I could use my MVC destinations points and very easily get a 2 BR at the Marriott in Williamsburg (not going through II), but I'd like to exchange into a 3 or 4 BR through one of the non-Marriott's in Williamsburg (Marriott's Ford Colony only has 2 BR's).

A few years ago we exchanged into a 3 bedroom unit at Kings Creek Estates at New Years using a Wyndham studio points deposit. Searching now with a Wyndham 2 bedroom I see some 3 bedrooms at Kings Creek and some 4 bedroom units at Williamsburg Plantation and Colonies at Williamsburg all for November and December of this year. I think you might have possibilities using your Marriott unit.

You could also consider an II Getaway. I see 3 and 4 bedroom units currently available at the same three resorts for October through December.

There are 3 br available at both King's Creek and the Estates at Kings Creek for late August 2016. You might want to grab one now. If you aren't using an enrolled Marriott week, you should also add eplus and then you could continue to look for a 4 br.

So many ways to skin a cat

The responses about instant trades, Ellis, and availability of 3-4 bedrooms makes sense.

Here is another idea. If your Zorlando week is high enough drmand.

1. Direct exchange in TUG
2. Lock-off a 2 Br unit and trade one side into a 2br at Ford's Colony. If you are trading a 1br unit , you can only make a pending request for the same size unit. But if you request into a 2br only resort, your request for a 1br will be filled with a 2br. I have done this on Hilton Head ( all 2br's) and Oceana Palms.
If you can exchange a 1br into a 2br, then you can try to get a 2nd 2br exchange or use cash.

3. Rent your week and use funds to pay for part of the 3-4 bedroom you want.

Sorry, to hijack the thread, but are there resorts that only have 3 bedroom units and if so where?

Imperial Palms in Orlando.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are others, but that's the only one (in II) that I know of.

For Orlando, there are three bedroom units available through II.

Imperial Palms, Grande Vista, Lakeshore Reserve, Star Island, Cypress Pointe Resort and Grand Beach.

On the Marriott ones - Usually available off season on trade or getaways. I have seen Star Island (over holidays) come up.

Thank you and as a side note I wear the TEE I purchased from you when we were on vacationed a few weeks back and when the timeshare folks started to ask the hubby about attending presentation, he said ask the boss, I turned around so that they could see my T-shirt and they said never mind….LOL
