If I deposited a studio and do a trade and pay the upgrade to a 1 bedroom. I assume when I search it will look for 1 bedrooms but will it also look for 2 bedrooms too for another size upgrade?
Right now with the studio side I see a 1 bedroom at a resort but if I look with the 1 bedroom side (I already used it, so using a fake res# but same data as studio) I see a 2 bedroom.
So if I trade for the 1 bedroom, do the upgrade do you think it will pull the 2 bedroom (with another upgrade charge) if I do a retrade?
It's enrolled so retrades are free.

My understanding is that the trade power is based on the original deposit. If you are seeing the 2 bedroom using the one bedroom but not the studio, it is likely the studio does not have the power to pull the 2 bedroom.

This is correct. Your trading power is dictated by original unit deposited and traded, not anything you have subsequently traded into

Try opening a pending request with the studio. Just be sure to indicate you want a 2BR or larger in the search. It might match the 2BR through the matching process. It doesn't hurt to try. You will still have to pay the two upgrade fees.

I've seen many times where I matched a 2 BR with a studio in an ongoing search using a smaller unit (or as I got closer to the time as an instant exchange). One could also take a smaller unit and try to retrade to the larger unit later but there might be additional fees depending on enrollment status and if it was a MVC resort or not. Sometimes I have situations where a smaller unit is OK for one part of a search but not for others. It'd be nice if II allowed one to specify different unit sizes for different resorts/weeks.

Same for specifying check-in days across a search with multiple date ranges and locations. Flights don't go every day to and from all places so it can matter for one location more than another.

I get why II sets things up to match across the entire weekend where applicable, it moves more exchanges and generates more revenue. I believe that allowing more flexibility in the way I described would be a win-win as it would likely generate more exchanges and some less phone calls. While I too would like to easily designate specific check in days, this would likely be detrimental to II's revenue though possibly decrease phone calls somewhat. I wouldn't think this would be difficult for II from a software standpoint but I also realize that nothing is simple when making changes to software. I've been told that II can put in notes for more specifics such as check in days or even to get multiple matches at one time or not at all but I suspect that's a hit or miss proposition plus it currently takes calling in and speaking to someone which always makes me nervous with II as they sometimes mess things up. I even had one II rep that intentionally canceled my pending search to "prove" it was feasible. Of course they didn't tell me they'd cancelled it and certainly not for that reason. Thank goodness for Craig back in the day, not only did he fix it but he was honest about it. I always wondered what happened to that rep.

Interval is hit or miss. I had a request in for anything Disney two years in advance. I figured out about how far in advance Disney resorts appeared in II each month. The day I wanted appeared as an instant exchange for the month I was requesting. Needless to say I did an instant exchange instead of waiting for II to let the weeks go to someone else. I lost faith in making a request. My request should have matched before the week appeared for an instant exchange.

For a while II reuqests for DVC were not working correctly. I understand they have resolved that issue.
