I deposited my one bedroom @ Pelican and via phone requested to put in an ongoing search for a 2 bedroom in Williamsburg VA for June (requesting KingsCreek or Fords Colony). The rep said it could not be done; the system would not allow my try for that request.

I have done it before; the same exact exchange done as on ongoing search. Williamsburg in June was always easy. Somebody set me straight. ( I also own a Marriott Harbour Pointe 2 bedroom so I do my exchanges through the Interval Marriott desk). Any and all advice appreciated!

As far as I know II will only let you do an ongoing search for like or lesser bedroom count.

So....your 1BR you can request either a 1BR or a studio. But, not a 2BR or more.

But, if you take your deposit and search on your own then you can get take what is available - even a 3BR if you can see it.

There is a 2BR out there right now for June 5th at Kings Creek. If that works for you and you can see it go grab it.

thanks. need to vent more...

It just happens I need the specific week, ugh! It does not make sense, they would not allow even a 1 bedroom in a top Hawaii resort to do an ongoing search for a dog two bedroom???? Bedroom size over rules the trade value.

You can put in an ongoing search at a resort that has only 2 bedrooms and no 1 bedrooms. For example, I own a 2 bedroom unit at Foxrun and wanted an exchange into a 3 bedroom on Maui because we have more than four going and wanted something larger than a 2 bedroom for privacy, so we requested One Napili Way, which are all 3 bedrooms. The II system allowed it.

Hi Scoobs - for lots of info. about how II works, check out the II FAQ at the top of the board. This is what it says about your situation:

What size unit can I get with an Exchange?
A.
• With an “Instant” online exchange, you can search for any size unit that your week will match with. So if your studio can find an instant exchange at a resort which show a 2 bd available, you can trade for that 2 bedroom.

• With an ““Ongoing Search" / "Pending Request" exchange, you can only search for a size unit which is the same as your unit size ( or less). EXCEPT: If you are using a 1 bd unit and want a 2 bd unit, you can get a 2 bd unit by requesting an exchange into a resort which have only 2 bd units.

ongoing search requests thru II and RCI both only allow you to request a unit less than or equal to the unit size of the deposit you are using.
This is one of the old and basic rules of like for like, fair trade exchange rules.
You could get lucky and get a larger unit if one happens to match your request but you run the risk of a smaller unit than what you really want.
using instant online search is the best way to go in these cases as you can choose to confirm only the larger units.
request only resorts that have the size unit you want has also been work around.

This is correct.

You should be able to put in a 2BR request for MMC, but not MSE and Kings Creek since they also have 1BR and studios.

If you only had one date and one resort, that doesn't even qualify as a request (three resorts or multiple date requirement).
