II and RCI question

Can you join II or RCI and purchase those "bonus weeks" or "leftovers" (I forget the correct term) but basically the weeks that are last minute deals that they want to get rid of WITHOUT owning a property to exchange. I remeber in the sales pitch they said you didnt have to deposit your week to buy one but do you actually have to own a timeshare to be granted access to the web sites.
 
interesting question ... i would say according to their rules no, but im sure there is a way to do it
 
To join II or RCI, you have to register a timeshare that you own with them, and they confirm it with the developer. However, some people have reported that later, they sold their timeshare, didn't notify the exchange company, continued paying their yearly membership fees, and continued renting weeks.
