Faulty premise
Wise and respected people have carried signs, written treatises, heck, some even convinced followers to commit suicide because they were convinced through various 'signs' that the world would end 'tomorrow'. They have all been wrong.
You'll just have to trust me on this, the world won't end tomorrow.
That said, and in keeping with the spirit of the OP, the world WILL end tomorrow for some tens or hundreds of thousands. They will die. And the day after that for thousands more, and so on and so on. Some will have advance knowledge of the event, and many won't. We are all moving toward the final breath, some in a headlong, full tilt race, others in shuffling baby steps, but inexorably moving in that one-way trip. All of us will experience our own 'end of the world'. The thing is to be prepared in our own way.
If there were to be some advance worldwide knowledge of an apocalyptic event that would wipe us all out, I suspect there would not be an empty pew. Or barstool for that matter. The term 'gallows conversion' comes to mind. But the concept is actually a cop-out. No preparations would have to be made. There'd be no clean-up, who cares what a mess we'd leave. It would be the ultimate selfishness.
For me, knowing that for each of us there is a final accounting, it just seems logical to keep all my own affairs in order so as to not burden those who will be left behind. To continually tell those who share my journey how much they are appreciated. To live in such a way that there won't be a huge bucket list of undone opportunities and tasks left.
