if you buy a fixed week on resale, but resort also has RCI points--how does it work?

do you have to pay any "conversion fee" to resort or RCI or do you just tell RCI if you want a "week" credit or points? Also, if your usage is EOY, does it work the same? Do you just get the points deposit with RCI EOY?

Your resort sets the charge if you want to put your week into points, they'll want big money $K. (RCI charges them about $199!). If you have EOY you'd get points EOY.

It would be a conversion fee - most likely a hefty one. Otherwise you are limited to using the shrinking RCI weeks system or a third party week for week exchange. Once the resort is in RCI Points you cannot use points for deposit.
Buying an unconverted week at a points resort may not be a good move anymore unless you plan to use it as a week outside any RCI system. Weeks within RCI seems to be going down the same road as weeks within the Fairfield system did over a decade ago. Those who stuck with weeks rather than convert in that system don't have much value to choose from anymore. The same is likely to occur with RCI weeks over the coming years.

what do you mean "once the resort is points, you cannot use points for deposit"

do you mean that you can't use weeks for deposit at RCI?

Also, limited description that I have says it is a "float week--reserve your week, or deposit points with RCI"--does that mean it is a mandatory RCI points resort-and that no "coversoin" is necessary because it is already a points resort--sorry for convovluted question--I am an old "weeks" dog that is trying to learn new tricks.

Conversion will cost

You could still deposit the week in the RCI Weeks system for exchange. Prior to the affiliation with RCI Points you could have also used the week to generate RCI Points using the points for deposit but once they became a points resort that option went away. Now if you want the week to be points you have to pay to convert. Unless you buy a week fro the resort based on RCI Points there is no automatic (no cost) conversion. Some resorts charge as little as $299 for the conversion but most charge $2999 or more.

Who gets the money?

Who actually gets the $2999+? The homeowners association? The management association? The developers?

The sales/marketing dept or company the resort uses.

I think what you are asking here is can you use the Points for Deposit program (where you deposit an unconverted unit from the Weeks system and receive points for the deposit). If you own a week at a Points resort, no, you cannot use an unconverted week in the Points for Deposit program. You can only use units that are at resorts that have no Points affiliation.

(I am sure that this is a bargain that RCI made with the resorts. The resorts did not want people bypassing the conversion fees by using the Points for Deposit program.)

Now, this part is confusing. Here you are saying something different from what was in your original headline. I am not blaming you for this. It appears that the ad is not entirely clear. Seek clarification as to what you are buying!!! Is it a converted week? If so, will the resort honor the conversion within a resale. (I only know of one resort group that does not - Pahio - but check.)

Good luck.
