What are some of the nicer resorts on Oahu? They don't have to be hotel chain resorts.

We are thinking that we want to make Oahu (because of the airport) part of of 2-island trip next year and have already stayed at KoOlina once before. We wouldn't mind going back there, but we would like to know our options for other similar quality resorts.

I know there is a similar thread, but I didn't want to hijack it. :)

Terry,

The only ones I've stayed at are Ko Olina and Hilton Hawaiian Village. I love both, and prefer Ko Olina when I go with family and am exploring the island, and HHV when it's just my wife and me and we want to go to nice restaurants and do a little $hopping. HHV is far enough off the beaten Waikiki path that it is ideal for our needs.

I understand Wyndham's Waikiki Beach Walk is very nice and is very well located, and HGVC is opening a new timeshare also on the Beach Walk. It is supposed to open in Summer 2013, but I think it is only going to be 1BR's.

Other than that....I believe there is a step down. I've looked at the other Wyndham Oahu properties and never felt enthused, and I know there is an II property called Hawaiian Princess on the west side of the island that has a fierce devotee, but is not withouts its blemishes (search this Hawaii thread for that).

Honestly, I'd stay with Ko Olina, or find an HGVC or Wyndham owner and do a Direct Exchange with them.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

Best,

Greg

Thanks Denise. The Tug database had slipped my mind.

Greg, it appears that there is a large drop off after the first 4-5 resorts. I remember a couple of years ago when we were at KoOlina and Ellen came over to visit. They were staying at HHV. She said she liked KoOlina so much better after touring it.

I was hoping not to pay another inter-island air fee since the only direct flight from Houston goes to HNL. Another option is to stay a second week on Kauai - like in Princeville. This why I am starting to think about it now.

Keep the ideas coming.
