So we are about to purchase a resale. We have been discovery for last almost 2 years.

To make sure I understand all I read on here and elsewhere. Can you all confirm this is correct

Pro
-ARP works exactly as it would
-Points work exactly as it would
-Inventory inside the reservation window is unchanged. (Meaning you and I look at the same time and I won’t see anything different then anyone else just because I’m resale
-I still can drop points into RCI
-I still can borrow or put points into future years (seems like i might only be able to weeks not points ??)
-I still can have guest passes (seems like 2 guest passes? )
-I can still access. The bonus time where you pay cash not points?
- I can still get the random points discounts. Current many resorts have 15-20% discounts if you book in April or May between particular dates.
- Seems i would still get Travel up either way though doesn't seem like there is much value in it. but its there.
- Either way housekeeping credits are limited to 1 per 70k points but that wont change either way

What I can’t have with resale
- no vip regardless of points
- no extra programs they add on (pic, clubpass etc)

Anything else I’m missing ?
Anything not correct above?

No Club Pass, which is directly booking Worldmark resorts with Club Wyndham points. (Though resale Worldmark is always an option if the western US is an important travel destination for you.)

I do actually have TravelUp access. I have no idea at this point if it's something everyone now has (it has been mentioned here that it was opened up to all, but I'm not sure Wyndham ever said that publicly), or if one of my more recent resale contracts was coded in such a way that I received it (though if it was, I didn't get any of the actually useful stuff that a miscoded contract could bring with it, lol).

That’s good info. I have discovery and I got a pop up the other day on the app saying I had travel up. But it did not load. So when I called in they said it’s not something discovery has access to. But at the presentation this week I had them look up whatever they wanted and I checked TNL go. It was exactly the same. Same order on the page same deals and same pricing. No difference. But arguably it’s not really much different than any other hotel search anyway. So not really interested in that.

Thanks for the reply. Club pass I didn’t do any research on that aspect. Not sure that’s a deal breaker for me either.

Thanks again I appreciate the assistance

Sorry typo. Discovery does not have travel up access. It has the button but it won’t load.

You are correct - no VIP and as @paxsarah said no clubpass. I think anyone can get to travelup now, but I (and everyone else who I've seen comment on TUG) see no value - it's entirely easily replaceable by any search engine like travelocity or expedia or whatever you like.

I think the clubpass breaks one way or the other based on if you're mostly east or west coast. But resale it makes way more sense to check RCI availability or just buy resale in both Worldmark and Wyndham - scaled to how much you want to go to each locations ...

Thank you as well. RCI I can deposit points into it?

Yes, though I'm not really sure doing so is something most would want to do because of RCIs high exchange fees.

I didn't have TravelUp when it first started but got it after a resale contract that had it transferred into my account. I have not used it, and it doesn't show much, if any, value to me.

That's probably how you ended up with it. At one of the updates I attended, I told the guy I had it, he disappeared, came back with some paperwork and showed me it was attached to one of my resale contracts. He said it wasn't supposed to work like that, be he was pretty chill and said "you pulled a fast one over on us"

To answer the OP's question, points are points, ARP is ARP, the only things resale wont get you is VIP and club pass, and MAYBE Travel Up, which is mostly useless from what I can tell.

From what I can tell from the Wyndham Website is that TravelUp and Club Wyndham Travel are the same thing and it doesn't matter which one I select, I get the same search forms to search for cruises, hotels, car rentals, etc. It is just an online travel agent that can't really give you anything more than you can get out on any other online travel agent website. I understand Vacation SideKick has a fee to join unless you are a higher tier VIP. I don't think Vacation SideKick is open to resale owners.

No PlusPartners either where you can use points to book non timeshare stuff like cruises, car rentals and hotels. Though that isn't a good value anyway.

This isn't a limit on resale because the same limit would apply if you bought retail. While on Discovery, you didn't have to worry about housekeeping credits. Once you have a regular account, you get 1 housekeeping credit for every 70,000 points. If you make several shorter stays you will run out and have to pay $195 to buy another credit to complete the reservation. There are owners with grandfathered unlimited housekeeping credits. You can't get that regardless of how many points you buy direct or resale. VIP get additional credits each year based on vip level in addition to the one per 70,000. Bonus time with cash also requires a house keeping credit. If you have 200k points you would get 2 housekeeping credits. If you have 210,000 you would get 3. Someone with 200k makes 2 reservations during use year and then goes to book a bonus time stay or borrow points for a 3rd reservation. They would pay an additional $195 for the reservation. If you bank points in RCI, you don't need to use a housekeeping credit. If you bank (move forward) or borrow points the housekeeping credit doesn't move it stays in the use year and expires at the end of the use year if not used.

Had not considered that. Great tip.

Agreed and i can confirm that travel and leisure GO is exactly the same thing as travel up. there was not even one picture different on the websites. complete the same inventory and pricing. just the logo changed. go figure.
