We have [a timeshare outside the country] I must say it was not the wisest purchase we have made. I am desperately trying to get rid of it, but it seems there is no way. For months, I have received phone calls from people telling me they already have a buyer. I never called these people back because I researched them and discovered they are scams. I tried to donate it and went to the "donate for a cause" website. They emailed me back and said they cannot take our timeshare. I honestly don't think it's worth anything so I don't expect to make a profit on getting rid of it. I participated in a webcast from "givebacktimeshare.com". The webcast just hit home what I already knew about the current timeshare industry, but just bleaker. But at the end, they want $4495 to "take my timeshare off my hands". That is a LARGE sum of money. The fee depends on your maintenance fee, which probably means I am paying my maintenance fee for months in advance most likely. They say I won't have to pay maintenance fees anymore once I pay them. But I still find it so strange that this is basically an "upfront fee". Normally, when we pay for a service, we pay after the service is completed. Not so with these guys. So I just don't feel good about it. I have advertised on timeshareworld.com and on the yahoo user group for the resort where we own. I thought donating was the way to go, but it seems I can't even do that. HELP!
