I lost my precious Silver persian today

:bawl: It seems like most of us on tug are going thru this with either our dog or our cats. I was not prepared for this with all that is happening still with my 95 yr old mom. She never looked sick, or acted sick but when I picked her up Sat. all I could feel were bones. She had absolutely no muscle tone. Because she is a persian I didn't realize she was loosing weight. I took her to the vets today and had to make the choice of trying to prolong her life or putting her down. She would only get worse and quickly and didn't want to put her through a lot of pain. She died in my arms and felt no pain. Kelli couldn't watch and is more of a basket case than I am. She was 13 yrs old and I can honestly say she led a life of love and pampering. She was one who never was sick and was a wonderful companion. I will miss her terribly. shaggy
 
That's so sad. I'm sorry for your loss. It does seem like so many people on TUG are losing their furry little friends. I lost my little 15 year old kitty last month and I really miss her. My remaining 3 furry friends keep me from being too sad.:(
 
Shaggy....I am so sorry about your sweet kitty. I know what it is to lose a beloved pet. The pain and the grief sometimes equals what we feel at the loss of a person. It makes me sad to think of you having to deal with this additonal stress, and I wish you strength to deal with this new "hole in your heart". I send you big hugs.
 
I am so sorry to hear about this, on top of your hardship with your mother.

We are just not prepared for this kind of thing.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sure the wonderful memories you 2 had with your kitty will comfort you in time. Thank you for your concern with my dog, when you had your own problems to deal with. Pets are so very special.
 
I am so sorry for your loss. Know that so many of us who have had to say good-bye to an animal recently or years ago, feel your pain.
 
I also want to tell you that I am sorry to hear of your loss. We have a stray cat that has had 2 litters in the past 6 months. Now we have 8. I have to make other arrangements for them because we travel so much and since my brother passed, our animal sitter is gone. It is good that you can come to us tuggers for support and sympathy.
 
Shaggy, I am very sorry to hear about your beloved cat. It is very difficult to say good-bye to our pets, but the memories we carry with us are forever comforting.

Shaggy, sorry to hear about your kitty. But at least you still have Monkey, and that must be a comfort to you.
 
This is a heavy blow to loose a treasured pet

I am so sorry to hear this. It is a tragic fact of life that unless you are very old or very sick or very unlucky your pets have a shorter life expectancy than you do. I cope by having multiple cats. I lost one elderly cat last year but still have his daughter to console me. She looks and acts like her father so I am very glad I kept her.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my 15yr old seal point Himalayan the same way. I left for So. Calif for two weeks when my grandson was born and my DH didn't notice she was losing weight since she had so much long fluffy hair. I noticed as soon as I got home but there wasn't much I could do. We tried IV liquids for a while but when she lost interest in food I knew it was time. I had force fed our Siamese for a few weeks just hoping it would make him stronger but in the end it didn't matter and after that I felt that I made his last days miserable by force feeding him. I refused to do that with our Himalayan and we had to say goodbye to her. I stiill miss her terribly. We had a mom and two kittens show up in our backyard (they looked like skin and bones) shortly after... so of course we fed them and they stayed... one of them just went missing... we let him out (couldn't make indoor kitty's out of them - they were used to being outside) He just disappeared...went outside one morning and didn't come back (he NEVER missed dinner :) I guess we can only enjoy them for as long as we have them and then we must do the best we can to remember the joy they broght us while they were with us.

I was heartbroken for months after the loss of my beloved sweet pitbull mix Nikita. She was an excellent dog and wonderful with my little ones. What finally helped me deal with the grief of losing her to a brain tumor was that I read about a woman who "died" on the operating table during surgery and then lived. She recounted a vivid memory of going up a long stairway into a bright light and that 'really happy dogs and cats were running up and down the stairway beside her'". Since I believe wholeheartedly in heaven it is very easy to believe that my sweet Nikita is there and now when I picture her I picture her tail wagging, tongue hanging out running up those stairs enjoying heself with her new friends...one of which is a silver Persian kitty.
This may not be for everyone but I adopted Nikita from a pet rescue center and the very day she passed away we went to a shelter and adopted another pitbull mix in her honor. Since there was nothing we could do anymore for Nikita we figured the best way to honor her was to save another pitbull mix (since they are so misunderstood and hard to adopt out) and our new pitbull mix "Tiki" is such a sweetheart, wonderful with my 2 and 3 year old and just such a good dog (my other 2 dogs love her too). I know Nikita would have loved Tiki and what better thing to do in her memory?

I want to thank all of you who helped me thru this. The poems sent by either email or here and all the well wishes really helped. Tug is truly a unique place where friendships are made. I am very glad I let Silver go the way I did. Hugs to all. shaggy
