I have been watching airfares daily (or weekly), because we are heading to Hawaii this summer and I still needed to book to more flights. I had already booked 3 RT flights using points on United Airlines from Houston to Honolulu last August. For months the price was $1038 plus tax pp RT on Continental and very similar on United and American. About two week ago I noticed that the price had fallen to about $800 pp RT. I was beginning to get excited but decided to wait just a bit longer.

Low and behold - today I checked and the exact same non-stop Continental flight was priced at $485 pp RT!!
Hurry Hurry Drive the Firetruck!

Remember, this is prime time -- mid-July. To say the least, I grabbed two seats with a total price of less than what one ticket was a couple of months ago. NICE! :D

Airfare is dropping

You are getting a great deal! Prices have been dropping to alot of places. Guessing the economy has a lot do to with it also. Have a great vacation!

So glad to hear prices have finally fallen. Our family of 4 is looking to go in summer 2010 and probably only have enough miles for 2 RT tickets. Those $1100 fares are painful.

Look for more bargain fares in the coming months. This morning's Wall Street Journal reports that the airlines are experiencing a much lower ticket demand than they expected, even in this poor economy. And they expect demand to drop further.

Get a credit with price drop?

I just bought tickets to Nevada for August on Continental. What if the airfare drops between now and then. Is there anyway to get a credit of the difference? I was too worried about waiting for Southwest to show their fares in mid-april for late August traveling and not getting what days we needed to fly.

The other thing that ticked me off with Continental when it showed the list of flights to choose from is that it said "5 seats left" for one of the time options. It was the time we wanted so I bought the tix. Then I go back later for the heck of it and check flights and our flight is listed still but with NO mention of remaining seats. Why did this happen?? I felt like I was pressured to buy because that flight would disappear with that price.

I am flying my wife and 2 of our children from punta gorda, FL to knoxville, TN for $109 round trip after all taxes, fees, 911 security BS and all.

Lisa, I have seen the same with Continental. I didn't buy the ticket I needed for an additional member added to our vacation when Continental said 1 ticket left at this price. When I came back to order a few hours later the price was up $15. So, sometimes when they say it, they mean it.

I just booked my VivaAerobus round trip non-stop flight (3 tickets) from Austin, TX to Cancun, MX for October. The price per ticket was $125.20 plus a $7.00 fee for using a charge card. Total drive out price was $132.20 per person. :D Last year we flew for $177 per person on VivaAerobus.

Continental’s flight with one stop is $423.84.

Update:

The price today is back to $1015 for the exact flights that I booked Tuesday. I stated above that the old price had been $1038 for months, but actually after seeing it, I now remember that $1015 was the old price. Anyhow, I'm happy. :D

Be sure to add the $15 per your bag, each way, into your costs. Makes me angry they are still adding on those charges, but what are you going to do?

Terry- What are you going to do with all the money you just saved :D ?
Have a wonderful trip!
