We looked at Sun City in Hilton Head. Wow, I loved those houses, but the grandkids would be too far away, all in Colorado. We just couldn't do that. Our home of 41 years is just so comfortable, and Rick has updated it so much, I see no real reason to move. What community did you move to, @Panina.
Treetops in Lancaster SC. I have went to see many different communities but this one stood out.

Lake, hiking trails, clubhouse, stand-alone club cabins plus lots of trees left up, convenient location with major shopping two miles away.

Didn't realize we were practically neighbors. My dd used to keep her horse in Lancaster. Congratulations on the life change!

And oh! Another friend of mine just moved into a home by your same builder in Monroe. She moved in recently and I stopped by to see her the two days ago. I was really impressed at the finishes and clever storage in their floor plan. They are quite happy as well.

@Panina:

Welcome back and congratulations on your move. It would appear that there a many other Tuggers who have recently retired and moved. I am happy to learn that they are doing well. I have learned so much from all of you about timesharing and you are teaching me about retirement as I begin my retirement in five days. DW has expressed an interest in moving but her parents are in their late 80s. I have offered have her parents move in with us. However, her parents wish to remain in their own home for the time being.

Meanwhile I turn 67 in January 2020. We will be taking her parents to celebrate the occasion at The Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch via an II exchange. We are all upset about all the recent flooding in the Houston area. If we move, We would like to be away from Hurricanes and flooding.

It's an endless weekend! But remember this expression:
"I married you for better or for worse, but not for lunch."

Thank you. Congratulations on your retirement.

One of the reason I chose to live where I did was because the risk factor was low for hurricanes and flooding, tornados too. When I moved to my current area my parents remained in their home state. Now years later dads gone and mom still wants to live where she is even though we gave her numerous options including living with us.

I travel frequently to see her, call everyday and handle everything here for her. One day there might be no choice but for her to come live with us but meanwhile we both figured out how to live where we want and balance her needs and wants.

He is!

But he has been off for the past two weeks and we are driving each other crazy because he can’t do anything in this limbo house we are living in. I on the other hand have more than enough to keep me busy- though it’s stuff I hate doing.

So far retirement for me has not been what I envisioned for the most part. And I don’t think it will for a long time to come. If we can just make it through 2020 ok- it should be better. But who knows what’s to be?

Retirement is fabulous. We have done it for 3+ years, moved for 2.5 years. Half the stress is gone after retirement and the other half after the move. We get up no later than 7am each day and most days are more like 6am. We are still busy and each day is filled with golf, driving range, gym, cards, travel, volunteer and a few doctors' appointments thrown in. I would describe the mind as being much freer than when we were working.

Retirement is great for health!

Sounds wonderful! I am hoping for that one day! I definitely don't miss work at all- that's for sure.

Congratulations on your retirement!! Enjoy!! Very relaxing!!

Hubby has been home for over 12 years. I recently (June) took my early retirement. I was working locally a part-time job - started out while kids were in school/get out of the house. I miss it some. Socializing and not sure I can explain it - I was more or less ME....:D. Picked up more babysitting days with the grandchildren - 2,3 sometimes 4 days a week. It's all good though!! - It would be too much trying to juggle it all. Add a doctor appointment here and there, errands, adding more traveling time and the best is, I don't have to worry what time I need to be in bed.

Getting either of us out of bed before 9:30 is a real struggle. I'm hoping once we get moved that there will be classes, beach walks and activities we'll want to take part in at 10 am, so we'll get on an 8am wake up schedule. Until then I guess we'll be content to be slothful. Cliff has a 10 am appt tomorrow, I have one Wednesday, there'll be a whole lot of moaning and groaning as we get ourselves up early.

We actually get up no later than 5:15am in summer as we like to golf at 7am while it is still cool enough by the time we finish a round. Even on days when we don't golf, when the sun rises we are up, hence the 5am summer waking time. Rise and shine!

Yes, having some sort of schedule in the morning will help get you used to waking up earlier.

The dirtiest four letter word in the English language is “move”. I have to be completely moved out of the office building I just sold before January 01, 2020. This is very stressful on DW as well. Perhaps this is one of the reasons DW’s parents have declined to move out of their home for the past 55 years.
