A family member who has never been to Key West is considering renting a suddenly-available 2BR unit (in March) at Hyatt Windward Pointe, directly from an owner.

From my own prior visits to Key West, I do know that this property (literally) directly abuts Key West International Airport, which is presumably somewhat busy in March. What I don't know is just how much noise and disturbance is "enjoyed" by Windward Pointe occupants as a result of such close proximity to the directly abutting airport.

Does anyone have direct, first hand experience staying for a full March week at Hyatt Windward Pointe and, more specifically, any first hand observations on the noise level "enjoyed" by Windward Pointe occupants from the directly abutting airport?

Mere speculation is neither helpful nor useful, but first hand observations and experience would certainly be welcomed and appreciated. Family member will need to either "lock up" or "pass" on this rental relatively quickly. This rental is not cheap and I would hate to see my sister and her family feel like (and regret) that they spent an expensive week in Key West cowering from the deafening roar and racket of jets taking off and landing right next door to them at all hours of the day and night.

I have stayed there, don't remember what month,. I never heard any noise from the airport. There is no beach at the T/S and the pool snack bar was bad, but the unit itself was nice. It is as far away from the activities of Key West as you can get.

Thanks for the input, although airport noise in March (and as observed in very recent years) remains my primary concern and question.

WP is not "as far away as you can get" from Old Town and Mallory Square --- Hyatt Beach House and Coconut Mallory both actually share that dubious distinction for timeshares in Key West. Smathers Beach isn't too far from the Windward Pointe property, but nowhere in Key West is particularly noteworthy for beaches anyhow.

I've suggested that they look for a week at Hyatt Sunset Harbor or The Banyan instead, but 2BR rentals at HSH are obscenely priced and the week they want to travel may not be available at The Banyan. I'm not going to offer them any actual encouragement to take the Windward Pointe / Airport week, but they might very well do so anyhow, having never been to Key West before and being unlikely to consider traveling there again in the future. We shall see...

Truth to tell, the place is not "as far away as you can get" from Old Town and / or Mallory Square --- Hyatt Beach House and Coconut Mallory both share that particular dubious distinction for Key West timeshares.

I've suggested that they look for a week at Hyatt Sunset Harbor or The Galleon instead, but 2BR rentals at both places are just obscenely priced and the week they have apparently found at Windward Pointe is the exact week they'd like to travel. I'm not going to offer them any encouragement at all to take the Windward Pointe week, but they might do so anyhow having never been to Key West and being unlikely to consider traveling there again in the future. Agree. I think that they would do better at the Banyan, HSH (Hyatt Sunset Harbor) or even the Beach House.
May I suggest Redweek or myresortnetwork.com for rentals ? They are good. I would try on Banyan's website as well.
I'd be happy to help them find something in March. Should be easier to find except for Easter week.

Thanks for that; I believe they have already been researching RedWeek and MRN and (...shudder) Craigslist too.
If they don't choose to just roll the dice on Windward Pointe, I'll be in touch ---and thank you very much for that kind offer.

Ironically, they've chosen Key West at all only because of an (expiring) employer-gift (with no dollar limit) of round trip airfare anywhere within the contintental U.S. They didn't want a six hour flight out to the West Coast and apparently Key West is about the most expensive flights they could find. The flights are apparently already booked. An odd way to select a vacation destination IMnsHO, but to each their own.

You're welcome.

Here's the current MRN list of Florida Key rentals, not much, but a couple-few. Should be more soon. Note the Beach House.

The Coconut Beach resort is supposed to be good. It is adjacent to Louie's Backyard restaurant, so away from Duval. I have friends who swear by this resort, but I've never been there. http://www.coconutbeachresort.com/

I've been by the Windward Point and the Galleon. Their locations were not what I would enjoy.

I own multiple weeks at all three Hyatts on KW. Each has unique qualities that draw me to the resort based on the time of year. Windward is the nicest hands downs. The view is terrific, more of an actual ocean view

I seldom stay at WP as I usually rent my weeks there. When I have. the jet noise did not bother me at all. (little activity, virtually nothing through the night - though it was not March when I stayed, so there could be more activity than fall when I was there). If a person is easily bothered by noise, as some of us seasoned folks are, then steer them away. My DW can be quirky about outside noise, but was not bothered at all by the jets. YMMV

Theo,

There are some March rentals here in the Tug Marketplace:

Thanks. Jet noise potential notwithstanding, they've now officially secured the Windward Pointe week 12 rental which they found (I'm not quite sure how or where).
Their week 12 rental is Saturday to Saturday (unlike at Sunset Harbor, which is all Sunday to Sunday weeks afaik). They need and want Saturday to Saturday and the price is apparently right (I didn't pry any further into the numbers). A done deal now, apparently.

They will be fine; distance and location are somewhat relative concepts within KW anyhow and I'm sure they will have a great time. Thanks for the input and efforts. :)
