Hi all-

Usually I can get these points programs down, but I’m having a hard time understanding and finding information on The Portfolio program. I will be doing about 10-15 nights a year in San Antonio for the indefinite future, and also would like to go to the other resorts. I’m not interested in getting a fixed week because my stays will be 3-4 nights during the week, and I also can see portfolio points are being given away practically.

They are being given away for a reason. Different pool of points, but there is no difference in legacy points and portfolio points when it comes to making reservations, except in the cost to acquire.

The fixed week is utterly irrelevant. Once converted to points, you can spend those points however you see fit.

It's better to own a definite something than a basket of points which are essentially an "IOU" from Marriott. Marriott just changed the point system when trading in Interval -- much, much worse for owners. I would hate to own just points. It's going to be far easier to divest my Key West unit because I can point to it and say, this -- you own this. Every year in winter. Come down and escape the cold. Just three hours from New York on a direct flight.

I just emailed a letter to Hyatt Consumer Affairs regarding a strong-sell presentation on Hyatt Portfolio program. The program is probably good for those who can use it. But two couples sat with a charming and experienced Hyatt salesperson at Pinion Point and we eventually signed, thinking we were prepaying some of our maintenance fees on our Kaanapali condo, while getting an annual 1000 points to use elsewhere, and a seemingly good program. All for $23,000. I'm sure it is advantageous for some folks. But, we didn't figure it out until we got an invoice last month for 2025 Maintenance Fees $1400 which we paid thinking it was for the Kaanapali unit. The statement is definitely not clear with HPC, HRC, HV Global Management Corp printed on it. When we went to Kaanapali the following week and attended our owner update meeting, Dan (who we bought from in 2014), was shocked at hearing how the sales presentation had mislead us. We think very highly of the Hyatt program and all their people, but this was quite over the top. We are in our 80's and not traveling as much as we used to, so Hawaii is just right for us, but we are not candidates for this "portfolio" program that has no resale value! To be continued...
