I have a question re: Hyatt "Priority" Ownership, Levels 1-5. I own 240K annual points, formerly with Welk, now with Hyatt. I can book 15 months in advance, so the day I could book a Christmas week at Sirena del Mar, I went online at midnight, and there were NO 1 bedroom ocean view villas available, only garden view villas (they are the same # of points - 240K pts, so obviously we would prefer ocean view).

I called Hyatt to ask what’s up, and have now been told for the first time (by two different reps) that I have "Platinum" points. There are also Platinum Priority owners – Priority 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (1 being the highest). While I can book 15 months in advance, apparently, Priority 5 can book 18 months in advance, and Priority 1 can book 22 months in advance, in addition to other perks. I asked how I can become Priority, and they said it's based on the number of points owned. For Priority 5, I would need to have 420K annual pts. Question: If I purchase or acquire additional points resale that add up to 420 points, do I qualify for Priority Level 5? Thanks so much for any guidance.

That is very helpful. I've talked to half a dozen folks at Hyatt in Owner Services and Sales & Marketing over the past few days, and no one else was able to get me that info. TUG to the rescue!

The regs do say that Priority V owners are "Owners who have obtained a minimum of 420K points from the developer, OR any combination of Points from the developer, including Priority Points, and any other point equivalent program expressly authorized in writing by the developer, totaling 420K Points."

Perhaps that means that if I had a combination of resale points, plus purchased a few Points from the developer, I would qualify for Priority V? I spoke w/ a guy named Johnny this morning in Sales & Marketing in San Diego, and he's supposed to call me back, so I'll ask him. But I assume he will focus on trying to sell me more points, and not answer my questions.

After Owner Services referred me 3 times over 3 days to Sales & Marketing, of course, Johnny in Sales & Marketing knew absolutely nothing, and couldn't answer my questions even after he talked to his "manager." He offered to have me come in for an owners update for 2-1/2 hours and earn a $200 certificate, but I told him all I wanted was the answers to my simple questions, and if he couldn't answer them now, I wasn't confident he could answer them then, so he referred me back to Owners Services. Will call again Owners Services again tomorrow...

Well, I finally spoke to a manager at Owner Services, and she confirmed that if you purchase/acquire points resale, other than from an authorized Hyatt representative, they do NOT qualify for Priority privileges, World of Hyatt points conversions, etc. (Exception if it is a transfer from a family member). It is annoying that even if I book 15 months out, Priority members can snatch up the prime properties before I even have access.

But on the other hand, in reading the fine print, Priority owners only have early access to a "limited inventory" of approximately 20% of the units, and this inventory is made available first to the Platinum 1 Priority owners (which is people who own 2 MILLION points or more), second is made available to Platinum 2 (1.5 Million Pts), then made available to Platinum 3 (1.02 Million Pts), then Platinum 4 (720K Pts), then finally Platinum Priority Level 5 (420K Pts). (See Regs, Section D, p. 3-4, attached above).

SO, even if I did have Platinum Priority 5, four more sets of Priority Owners would have the chance to book these units before I could any way.

Not worth it. I'm sticking with my 240K Platinum points that I purchased resale for $1!

@ambere - sounds like you have your answer.

But you would likely get more visibility with knowledgeable owners if you post in the Hyatt Vacation Club / Welk subforum. This is the HRC subforum for Hyatt Residence club owners.

Good to know; I didn't realize that was separate. Thank you!
