We could only find an accessible unit for the week we would like to travel. Is there anything we should know about the unit besides the counter is 2-3 inch lower and bathroom safety bar?

Where is the unit located?

Thank you for any insights.

There are varying levels of accessible units. The room could have a full roll in shower vs just a bar. Some may not have any storage under sinks as they are intended for roll up.

A follow-up question. Did the resort and the surrounding area fully recovered from the hurricane a few years ago? Is the new construction done? Which building we should request for at least some view?

I think there are only four buildings. That is all that will be built. They all should have a similar view of the marsh.

Building 4 is the newest. I was there in May. There is construction nearby for the Ritz Carlton residences.

I go there at least once every year. We love this property. I will try to address your 3 questions.

The resort has been severely impacted multiple times over the last 3-4 years by a storm surge. It seems to be becoming a yearly norm. I have had multiple trips with main pool closures, the lazy river shut down and the beach closed due to severe damage. It is all fine now but after many consecutive years of visiting late in the year we booked elsewhere this year because of hurricane season patterns.

They initially had 3 buildings and between protected eagle nests and the economy they stopped. A fourth building was later built to sell HPP inventory. Corporate recently sold off a lot of land and the details are hotly debated (another thread). All that to say that any more buildings are unlikely. That is because it appears that either most of all of the land for the remaining 14-15 buildings from the original plan was included in the sale.

The property is not on the water but access to a private beach is accessible if you reserve a shuttle ride. The golf course view is similar from all 4 buildings.

I booked a Christmas week. Hopefully, there is no damaging hurricane this fall.

Thank you for all valuable information for us to make the reservation.

FYI - It does not bother most people, but the bugs there can be bad. You cannot see the water from the property but you are next to a huge bay. They are hard to see and they bite but don't bother me much. You will see an occasional complaint on reviews. So you may want to take something for bugs just in case. They sell something in the onsite store if you forget.

You have to reserve a shuttle to the Hyatt Regency nearby (parking there is expensive) to go out to the private beach. Chairs and umbrellas are included and you can take a cooler with food and beverages. The boat ride to the private beach is fun and you often see dolphins. You should call the resort a week ahead of time and try to reserve a slot. They only let you reserve one at a time but that time of year should not be busy.
