Hope the Hurricane is a non event
But this has the potential to be a significant weather event
Be safe everyone

Unfortunately you're right. Idalia could blow up fast into a major storm. We just returned from an exchange in Aruba yesterday and now have to leap into storm preparing mode. We have most everything, but I still need to get more sandbags. The county has a distribution of them available tomorrow. We are hoping it stays disorganized and therefore weak, but that's not what they are forecasting at the moment.

forecast gets stronger every hour they update it....

Looks like it's making a beeline straight for me.
But I'm about 75 miles inland on a hill.

Still, the last 'cane brought down a few trees
- a limb went thru a neighbor's roof.
It only messed up our yard.

They just announced the Tampa airport will close early tomorrow morning and plan to reopen on Thursday.

Please heed any evacuation calls for your area. Stay safe.

My son is in St Pete. He says he just gonna stay. My buddy is in Venice. He’s gonna drive to the other side of the state tomorrow

What do you Florida hurricane experts think. I am flying to Orlando next Tuesday. Think it will be through before that? Path shows it going northwest of there now, but lots of rain. Caught the end and edge of a storm last November.

Our oldest DS just moved to Apollo Beach, outside of Tampa, in June. This will not be the first hurricane he has ridden out as he works for a major restoration company and has travelled to areas ahead of hurricanes to have crews nearby and ready to start working as soon as the storm is over. DiL is very nervous (DS is not) but our DS says they is staying put for now. Their home is on a canal 1 block in from Tampa Bay. Their back lawn is normally 4-5 feet above the canal water level and the lawn rises up towards the house so he hasn't even sandbagged the patio doors. He promised to keep in touch and message us if their situation changes. We offered to let them use our condo (in St. Augustine Beach) as it is unrented until the 1st but he wants to stay closer to their house.

We got a notice from our condo HOA reminding us to bring in patio furniture off the balcony this evening. We advised them we are over 1200 miles away and cant do that, then we called our property management folks and asked them to take care of things. I don't think, and I'm hoping, the storm will not be too bad in the St. Augustine area.

Just hoping it weakens. And doesn’t go in SW Florida again. Just had our roof repaired from Ian.

We never leave in Summer or fall without batting down the hatches.

crazy the storm has done literally nothing all day. still not yet a hurricane, still moving due north at 8mph.

though now its over clear/open water in the gulf, so we shall see how strong it really gets over the next 24h.

I hope everyone in Idalia's path is safe!!

As of 5am, it is a Category-1 Hurricane. Primary reason is the Gulf of Mexico is very warm, almost bath-water temperatures. That fuels hurricanes as the ocean dissipates heat. As a side note, Florida homeowners can expect more homeowners insurance hikes due to insurers still not having adequate reserves (reinsurance).
