looking to make a reservation - online it shows availability SMTWR (not F) and S.... and when I called they said that was the case
 
I have found that the online availability is not totally up-to-date.

Are you saying that online availability does or does NOT match what you found when you called in? I agree with Denise that there are discrepancies sometimes, but that's not what you seem to be saying.

I think what the OP is asking (and it's a question I am curious about as well) is how there can be availability for just stub sections of a week outside the 60 day reservation period. I know that people making reservations within 8 months can make them for a whole week or more, but looking at the calendar it certainly looks like there are a lot of orphan days created and random holes in certain weeks (like what the OP has pointed out). Many more than I would expect from week+ reservations.

the online system and phone actually do match. what I think is weird is that for the week beginning Sunday, there is not availability because that Friday during the week (only) there is no availability.

And yes, this is right at the 8 month mark.
 
This is typical - the weekends always get booked first as people add extra nights to the beginning or end of a 7 night reservation.

You can't book LESS than 7 nights at 8 mos. out, but you can book MORE than 7 nights.
 
You book or rebook a 7+ night stay at the 8 month window. For example, on 12/22/2011, I booked my week at Cancun for 12/22/12 (7 nights). On 4/22/12, I checked availability, cancelled the previous reservation and I booked 12/22/12 - 01/01/13.

As long as either the arrival or departure date falls on a standard check-in day for that property, you can book any number of days you want, as long as it's at least 7 days, and you have enough SOs of course.

That could happen because at 8 months from arrival a reservation can be made for more than 7 days. All that is needed is an arrival or departure on a check-in day.

There would be less availability on a Friday or Saturday and more on weekdays if StarOption reservations were made Friday to Sunday (9 days) or some other week+. It's part of the flexibility that exists at 8 months for owners in SVO with lots of StarOptions. I have used it for this coming January to make a reservation for 2 1/2 weeks at WDW at exactly 8 months from arrival. Salty
