We will be at Palm Aire in Pompano Beach on May 21-28. My parents agreed to watch our daughters one night so that we may go out to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary (May 20th).

We were thinking of going to Howl at the Moon. It sounds fun, but when I saw pictures on their website, it looked a bit too college age/wild for our tastes. We want to kinda relax, have a few drinks and be entertained(A signalong is ok, but I don't like to dance, and a nice place to ear dinner wouldn't be bad either). The other place we were considering is Double 88's (name?) a dueling piano bar at the Hard Rock Casino.

Has anyone been to either place and can give us some guidance?

In addition, I would prefer to go during the week so it is a bit less crowded, but I don't want a dead place either.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Joe

Re: Howl at the Moon

I went into the Ft Laud locaton of this chain, and didn't stay. It is connected to the Sloppy Joes of Key West.

I didn't stay because it was very smokey....I think it is right next to a cigar store. One full window of the front is removable, and I guess this allow the place to allow smoking.....I did like the piano stuff...listened from the out side for a short while, as two other groups were playing in other areas...and the 'music' became too mixed an was noise.

Do you like Jazz? There is O Haras on Las Olas, and Youngs Circle (in Hollywood).

On Las Olas, try the Storks (Bakery) branch restaurant....has gondola rides, and great baked goods.

I will post more on the Ft Laud question when I have better Internet access. Currently between Fl & NJ

All places are via www.watertaxi.com at beach place and Las Olas..not Hollywood

Re: Howl at the Moon

Howl at the Moon is a fun place, but relaxing it is not. The bouncers are in radio contact with each other - if that tells you anything. Doesn't really get going until late.

Went to Howl at the Moon in Tampa and Orlando and had one of the funnest times I can remember at a club. Relax and enjoy it.

Just got back from Orlando (we only had one day there) Went to Howl at the Moon and we had a great time. They get the audience going...abit crude at times but hilarious. Sure there were alot of college kids, but I saw guys who were retiring (got them up on stage) Kinda reminded me abit of Coyote Ugly dance bar without the dancing. All through the night you send in your requests for songs and they play them and get everyone to sing along. We wish we could have stayed longer. We went from 7 pm to 11 pm (had to get up at 5:00 a.m. for flight home) It was not busy at 7:00 but packed by 11:00

I think this is JME's favorite place when he stays at BeachPlace Towers. :)
