How well does your studio unit trade recently?

Hi..how a studio or 1 bed deposit to ll will get you a week in Harbor Atlantis - Bahamas And. / or Aruba Marriott? Looking at lock off TS - Marriot and interests to book in those 2 locations in value weeks / low months . Thanks

I think Harborside will be a challenge no matter what unless you are able to go in January. With Starwood preference, not many units make it out and are booked by Starwood owners. Using a 1BR or studio to go to either of the Marriott properties in Aruba is probably pretty easy in shoulder or off season. We used a studio to trade in to a 2BR there a couple years ago.
 
My DSV1 red studio traded through OGS outside of Flex to NCV twice, both times a year out (April week and last week of May), and MKO 2BR 5 months out (Dec).
 
I wouldnt say that my studio's trade power has gone down.
What I would say is that II seems to have made a mess of the trading power for studios.
I am now unable to see many resorts using shortstays (for example: The Colonies, Williamsburg, VA, Ocean High, Ocean City, MD, Saint Tropez Condominium, Ocean City, MD, Sandy Square, Ocean City, MD)

I think I've pinned my inability to see those resorts down to the fact that those resorts have only 2bdr+ units.

Oddly enough, I see plenty of studios and 1bdr in Marriotts and Hyatts all across the country and in relatively in-demand seasons.

I cannot see 2bdrs using shortstays anywhere, even in relatively low quality resorts in the shoulder season.

This seems to indicate that II is using this logic: a 2bdr in a low quality resort in the shoulder season has higher trade power than a 1bdr in an Elite resort in the high season.

That's just plain nuts :doh:

I am happy with my Shadow Ridge studio trade. We got a Royal Palms 2 bedroom Orlando Christmas week. My family will use the week to spend Christmas with our oldest daughter, who is a college student there.

My gold season Grand Vista takes more work to get a good trade than my gold season shadow ridge, but none the less I have been getting very good trades. This yr I traded my GV studio to a 3 bedroom Lakeshore Reserve during July 4th (traded at least 7 mos in advance), but since my wife didn't want to go to Orlando in July, Retraded the GV studio into a 2 BR Marriott Streamside evergreen for Presidents wk, where we just finished an awesome week at Vail.....
 
Just traded my Aruba Surf Club studio for an Aruba Ocean Club 1 BR.

Via E-Plus, I was able to trade the OC 1 BR into a Surf Club 2 BR a couple weeks later.

Turned my one week 2 Bedroom SC into 2 weeks in a 2 Bedroom SC.

I have done this every year since the Surf Clubs inception.

Nice bonus this year is that we get an Oceanfront room for one of the 2 BR units (Oceanside for the other).

That's terrific. How far in advance did your Studio for 1BR match (and was it OGS or Instant Exchange)?

How close to check-in did you do the 1BR --> 2BR trade?

Greg - my split flip went like this:
December 20th - Split my 2 BR with Marriott.
January 12th - Traded my 1 BR for a 2 BR Surf Club - April 25th check in. (Date and size preference completed).

January 12th - Traded the studio for a 1 BR Ocean Club - April 25th check in and signed up for E Plus Retrade.

February 2 - EPlus #1 - Changed check in date to April 24th at 1 BR OC
February 14 - EPlus #2 - Traded into 1 BR SC for April 24th check in.
February 24 - EPlus #3 - Traded into 2 BR SC for April 23rd check in. (Date and size preference completed.)

Very interesting, thank you for posting this. 2017 Usage is the first year I'm not going to trade my Willow Ridge back into MOC, and curious to see what I can do with the 1BR and the Studio split. Thanks for the experience, I like what you've done alot.

Willow Ridge is relatively weak split up. It just depends on what is expected. The WR 1BR Platinum trades only a tiny bit higher than an MGV 1BR Gold. Barring the need for an OGS the entire 2BR WR Platinum only trades a hair higher than the 1BR MGV Platinum.

That said, instant up-trading usually doesn't need a ton of power as long as the deposits or cancellations are there.
 
This might be slightly off-topic considering we are talking about studio trades. I have something similar with 2-bd/ba villas.

We have a Cypress Harbour Sport Week which can be booked between weeks 18-23 and 34-50. We predominantly use our week to exchange.

Our travel is usually during the summer months and we have had good success with exchanges in the past but have seen that over the past couple of years the exchanges have dried up. The requests for exchanges have been put anything ranging from 10 months to about 6 months before.

Does the trading power chart displayed in Interval International for the resorts have any significance anymore. According to the chart, week 23 has a much higher demand than week 47-48 which is Thanksgiving. I usually book either week 23 or the Thanksgiving week.

Previously, I have been able to get 2-bd/bath Marriott villas, now all I see are usually non-Marriotts with my unit. Is this sort of the experience that I should expect or is it that the weeks usually open up within the 60-day period?

Secondly, for exchanging, are those two weeks still the best ones to book or are there some other weeks that I should look at.

Thoughts and suggestions would be welcome.
 
I don't buy the TDI chart in all cases. It has weeks 18-21 as higher than Thanksgiving but I have done trade power tests for Orlando that indicate the opposite. It also looks like they forgot to differentiate Thanksgiving for 2016 and 2017. It has week 46 as the TDI bump for both but in reality it's week 47 for 2016 and week 46 for 2017.

In your case without doing a test I lean towards week 23.

Some people think TDI equals trading power and it is a general indicator but not a true direct relationship. Some TDI areas cover too big of a geographic area and there have been very clear inaccuracies. I used to have weeks 12 and 27 at a place in St Augustine. The TDI chart is titled "Northern Coasts". It shows the summer weeks as max TDI and week 12 as less than max. The week 12 traded so far above the week 27 that it weasn't remotely close. There were a vast number of units in instant trading that could be seen with the week 12 but not the week 27 in instant trading.

We too have a Cypress Harbour sport week (and a special week). We always exchange the sport week. We either book week 23 or Thanksgiving. Not sure which week has highest power but both weeks have done well for us trading into other marriott's, either using an OGS request or using instant exchange. Recent trade history:

Wk 23 2015 - for Marriott Canyon villas. Feb 2017. 1bdrm
Wk 23 2014 - for Marriott ko'olina. Oct 2015. 2 bdrm Oceanview
Thanksgiving'13 - for Marriott Newport Coast. March 2014. 2 Bdrm
Thanksgiving'12 - for Marriott Maui ocean club. Oct 2013. Oceanview. 1 Bdrm
Thanksgiving'11 - for Marriott Desert Springs. Christmas 2012. 2 Bdrm
 
In reading some of the replies. Are you saying with your studio you were able to get a 2 bedroom at a resort that had lockoffs available, but they gave you a 2 bedroom instead. And also that it was outside of the flex change? I didn't think you were allowed to make that request on II. In other words request a 2 bedroom if only trading in a studio. I know within flex change period you can do this, but outside of it?

You can't request it, but if you have a request in using a studio and a 2BR is deposited that your request matches for, then you get a 2BR. Though if a 2BR and a studio are deposited at the same time, I would expect the request to match against the studio first.

A request works similar to instant exchange, you can see larger units then you can confirm to them. So if your request can see larger units, just behind the scenes, it works the same way.
